Re: Worst equipment failure ever.

My worst story is nowhere near that bad, but it was very scary for me at the moment.

I had just had my head retubed and had the whole setup up and running with about 10 minutes till showtime. I was there fooling around , warming up on low volume and all the sudden, Nothing!

Me and the singer went through my whole rack setup which is a wiring nightmare and tried everything, I was thinking my head had a problem, but then for some reason I dediced to chedk all the input lights tot he rack.

By doing that I was able to see where the signal was being cut off at, and it led me right to my pedalboard.

The dumb sound guy pulled the adapter for my wha pedal out out the wall and didn' tell or ask anyone what it was for.

Like I said it was in no way a disaster, but was pretty scary for me at the time

[ QUOTE ]
Read a ton of reviews on Harmony Central, Talk Bass and a few other forums / articles that came up on a google search.I would love to be assured that this is good and reliable, but it does look kindah chessy compared to the Marshalls / Ampegs that I own, use and am used to. I also own a Sovtek Mig 100B Bassov Blues Boy which is a great sounding bass head but just doesnt have the power I need. I ocassionally practice through Marshall Super lead / Super bass but but they too just dont have the power.

[/ QUOTE ]Yeah, HC reviews you have to take with a grain of salt. will tell you that Carvin's build quality is a lot better than that of the Marshalls you mentioned, at leas of anything from the JCM900 series onward. One thing have never seen in 30+ years is a broken arvin amp, again other than the one I broke through my own fault of dropping the chassis after I pulled it from the cab. That was my own stupidity. I also sold my JMP 50-watthalfstack after A/Bing it with my Carvin X-60B halfstackand finding the Carvin sounded equally as good cranked, and also had a clean sound the Marshall couldn't touch.Of course, the fact the Marshall gear brought more than twice as much $ from the Recycler was a factor, but the Carvin gear was every bit as good. I know a lot of people who just don't like the way they sound, but I don't know anyone who's had one break on them. I will also say that most people consider Carvin bass gear to be a lot better than their guitar gear; even those who dislike the guitar amps think highly of the bass rigs.Get some reviews from some people who are (A) over 21, and (B) have used the gear and aren't repeating hearsay.

Actually, buy a ConducTool from StewMac for $20 ($30 minimum - buy something else too).

Clean the shit out of all your input and output jacks with the conductool, or if you're too broke for that, buy a can of contact cleaner for $8 at Radio Shack and clean the jacks, your cable ends and the jacks and controls of your bass too. Oxidation can cause your signal to fail. If all your stuff works at home I bet that's all that's wrong.
Maybe you just need to clean your gear and buy some new cables. Do you smoke, or play in smoky places a lot? The smoke residue will coat your gear and cause problems as well sometimes. You coould buy all new stuff and ahev the same problem in a year, if smoke or humidity are the real problems.

Also, seeing that you specified Super Lead and Super Bass heads, I take back the build quality gripe too. Other than those amps being prone to blowing trannys, they're pretty well-built. I was incorrectly envisioning JCM900s ior something. Sorry about that.
