Re: Twisteramps and Sully need opinion.

Soloist1, thanks for explaining that. I don't know thetroy nor was I aware of his posting habits had a history of no value or conflict, in fact I haven't seen him post in any of the threads I read previously. I can understand where you are coming from based on the history of his posts.

I did notice he is a fairly new guy around here and I just hate seeing newbie's being treated unfairly for no reason as that does happen frequently around here. That in itself provoked me to reply to this thread. If the user is deserving of the reaming then so be it, as it seems to be in this instance, sorry I jumped in.

Not a problem dude. I'm stressed lately so I'll admit I'm easily annoyed these past few days. To me it seemed apparent he made this reply because he didn't like my response to the one he made in regards to the other. I have no problems with almost every single member here, new or old. Just the "Dross" like ones.

Of all the tools who have come through here, Dross/MyOrangeCat may well have been my favorite.

Sorry Soloist1 for the potential hijack.

Oh I'm sure he is .. but like most dishonest tools he'll stay in hiding so he can hang around.. I still htink the guy is a "cokehead"

I'm to out of it to remember what the subject was anyway Chuck. lol Oh yeah the Soldano Avenger. Just trying to justify why I would need a 100 Watt Soldano for bedroom playing. Probably overkill. I guess I'll probably stick with the good old sp77 and 20/20. Damn I'd like to have something closer to the SLO100 though. I guess if I want something like that there is really only one way to go anyhow. But the SLO100 would definitely be more than I could use wattage wise. You think Mike Soldano can be coaxed into designing a SLOmini. Something with EL84's and DeYoung's. lol There's gotta be a market for that. I'd buy one in a heart beat.

Put some THD Yellowjackets into an SLO and run EL84s. There's your SLOmini.

good idea Pete pull all tubes and then put just put 2 YJ's and EL-84's in. I do that in a JCM800 2203 to tame it and it works out pretty well, still pretty loud at about 20 watts tho.

Re: Twisteramps and Sully need opinion.

Has anyone done that? Put yellowjackets into an SLO? If so, how did it sound?

I don't have an SLO, but my understanding is that most of the distortion comes from the preamp, so you really have to crank it to get any extra saturation from the power section. Is this correct?

I guess the other option to the SLOmini is a hotplate.

I've been itching for an SLO for a long time, and I just haven't been able to make myself pull the trigger, one day though, one day...

...as to the original question: I've never heard an Avenger, so I can't comment on it's tone.

Re: Twisteramps and Sully need opinion.

Matt the SLO does have to be cranked to get the true SLO tone. That much I at least know. If I could get that SLO tone with the yellow jackets I may have to do so. Hell I may just get one to try it. Not like that amp doesn't hold it's resale. I know Chuck(chuckracer) has run his SLO with a hotplate. Maybe he can comment on that. Chuck you ever try yours with yellow jackets?

That's what I keep telling myself, just buy one! If I buy one, I can always resell it for what I paid for it, but I know that it won't ever leave.

Also, since I'm (fortunately) in the situation where I can crank my amps pretty much all the time, I'm not worried about reducing the volume with the yellow jackets, I was just curious as to the tone.

I've never tried the 'Jackets in my SLO, and the hotplate did color the sound a little, but it was still a glorius sound!

The EL84 Yellowjackets would also change the tone quite a bit... I'm still debating on keeping my 50 HR+, and if I do, rebiasing it for a set of EL34s. I'm just not a real 6L6/5881 fan - I prefer how EL34s crunch.
