• Any experienced Crate users?

I recently aquired a Crate Blue Voodoo 6212 combo amp for christmas... it was bought used from ebay and it was sounding great. As far as I know the tubes haven't been changed in it before it was shipped. Anyways, recently when playing at a good deal of volume (not super loud, but not all that quiet ) I noticed the speakers have been cracking and popping.. it sounds like to me anyways... could this be a problem with the speakers? or the tubes perhaps? any input would be greatly appreciated.

Probably your power tubes. My Randall was doing the same thing. It would suddenly get louder, and then make some loud popping/crackling noises, and then go quiet again. I changed the power tubes, and it went away.

Check your cables too. Cracking can just be a bad connection ANYWHERE in the amp, cab, cables or even guitar. Try running into a different set of speakers and see if it happens.

Talked to the local crate dealer about my problem.. says it sounds like a dirty pot... anyone agree with this logic?

Only if it happens when you are adjusting the pot. When my pots got dirty, I only had static/noise, when trying to adjust the volume etc. But, you can always get some tuner spray (from Radio Shack), and clean them and see if it solves your problem.
