KORG AX1500G vs. BOSS ME-50

Just wondering if anyone here has a Korg AX1500G and might have tried it out against a BOSS ME-50. What were your thoughts. Can you turn the amp modeling off on the KORG and just use it for stomp box style effects? I read about them on Korg's website but it didn't specify.

I had a ME-50, for about a year.

I sold it recently on ebay.

Everybody says single effects are better, and yes. . .they are.

I bought it because I thought it was a great value. But I soon realized, that i dont need a hundred and one bizarre effects.

I very much enjoy having a "real" rig, with a MXR phase 90, and a Visual Sound H20 (chorus and delay), an old Ibanez FL9 flanger, Morley Bad Horsie wah, and a Boss SD-1,

rather than Boss's digital phaser and flanger (which I thought sounded very wierd), Boss's pitiful wah, and the Digital COSM distortion pedal modeler.

IMO, it takes all the fun out of the effects! Its fun to sit for an hour or 2 when you come home with a new pedal and slowly tweak the knobs, seeing all the sounds you can get from it.

Not to mention you cannot re-arrange the effects in the order you want, for different effects and different sounds.

But, if you really want to get a multi, I would go with the Boss. Im just trying to save you from a decision you might regret later.

I was looking at some multis a couple months ago, esp. the ME-50. I liked the simplicity of it. In the end, I ended up going with their old half rack unit, the Se-70, and a MIDI foot controller (havn't gotten one yet). The se70 was cheaper, way more versatile, and to my ears, sounded better. You may not want to deal with rack gear though. With some things like these, no amount of reccomendations or whatever can make the decision for you, you just need to play through as many units as you can.

Thanks for the info! I'm glad that I got to speak to somebody that acutally had one. I'm looking for pretty much the same thing that you were. I have a Line6 amp as my secondary so I don't want another amp modeler. I'm wanting something I can run with my Mesa Boogie without taking away from the natural tone of the amp. That was why I was considering the ME-50 but the thought of going back to regular stomp boxes like the old days is very appealing to me. I was just wanting to get the most bang for the buck so I was considering a multi-effects unit. I'll hash all this over. Thanks for the info guys!

i would check out a used boss gt-6.
they sound really good thru the fx loop.
some people don;t like the distortions, but thats all bypassed when running the 4 wire method thru the fx loop.

The ME-50 is the GT-6 without all the COSM amp modelling stuff. There'd be nearly no point buying the GT-6 for just effects when the ME-50 will do the same thing, and perhaps for a cheaper price too.

Another thing I didnt really like was the signal loading. If your looking into preserving your tone, and since you spent the cash to buy a Mesa, I would definately just get a handfull of well made single effects, with true bypass or some other switching method. My Visual Sound H20 actually has whats called "Pure Bypass" and it actually is a tiny signal booster that not only leaves your tone uncolored and unhindered, it gives it a subtle boost to help make it all the way to the amp, you can read about it at www.visualsound.com , its a top notch pedal. If you use Ebay, you can get several nice analog effects for about the price of a new ME-50, and have much nicer results.

Thanks again. I'm thinking that single pedals is the way to go now. I'll check into the H20 pedal. Your advice on the ME-50 has been accepted well [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]
