imho schuldiner got an awesome sound out of them, but then again, he used super hot pickups (dimarzio X2N)
all i can say is that the former 2nd guitar player of my band played through the 60W combo version, and it sounded like ASS, at least at the high volumes he had to run his amp. when he had the chance to get the master down to around 4 (which isn't even close to band volume) it actually sounded decent. lots of gain, pretty tight, etcetc. sure, a good jcm800 eats it for lunch, but for the price it's alright if you dont play loud.
