Man, I played Bills for a year, and can't find the love of that amp... Cool amp, but not for over 2k new.

Hey Tetsuo, I just got an uber about 2 weeks ago. They are unreal, great for new metal and thrash. I play it through 2 Mesa 4+12 recto cabs. I dont know how I went without one. Now I have the best of both worlds the uber and 2 Cameron modded Marshalls.

Love my XTC..Rendered everything else I owned expendable.

The Vetta is gone, next is the Voodoo Amps Mesa Rec.

Me and Cleve agree again! What's this world coming to? I still think the Soldano Avenger kicks the Uber's ass for high gain mayhem. But, the Avenger is kinda ugly (imho) compared to the Uber.

            Re: NAMM- New Bogner...

Pete and John , and everyone else..

The Uberschall is a very awesome amp for its intended purpose I suppose. It does have a one horrible shortcoming in my book , and that is the EL34s.

At low to moderate ..to moderately high volume levels the Bogner is my favorite amp in the world ...hands down and without a doubt in my mind. This is due to the preamp section of the amp obviously....I just love everything about it.

I know that Pete and John would agree that the Uber could be modded to accomodate 6L6 or KT88s. I'm sure my amp would only benefit from such a mod. There was never a EL34 amp that I was truly happy with and it's always the same complaint no matter what amp....When you crank them they honk like a car horn to me...all mids and NOTHING but.

I would love to somehow try the preamp section of my Bogner thru John's Kt88 VHT 2150...that would probably be the closest thing to my theory of perfection as I could get.

I wish they made an Uberschall preamp...maybe with a couple of chanels to boot..I think I would buy that.

Funny thing is I almost could get to that "band" volume without the EL34s coloring my tone...then it goes past it's coolness volume threshold and then goes into "HONK" mode...ahhhhh I hate that...and that's just not the Uber..that's my old Marshalls , Lee Jacksons , ..whatever had EL34s!

I think the Bogner is loud enough to record or gig with and get the sound I truly want without a problem...but over another loud guitarist (John) or drummer and you have to push the amp just enough for the tubes to kick in and fukk everthing up .

The Uber is awesome...if you are the single guitarist band and you don't have exeed about %50 pf the amp's volume. ...although Jon Schaffer (Iced Earth) sure seemed to be just fine with it...and he's the rythm dude....The other dude Ralph Santolla used an SLO for leads.

That Soldano sounds like its very cool...but if it's loaded with EL34s I may as well keep what I got..unless I could get that Aveger up to that perfect band level (a little louder than the uber) without the honk....if it's a 6L6 sonofabeech...I'm all ears.

I was thinking of doing what Ed used to do or still does...with a Palmer and a H & H poweramp...I bet that may make me happy..this concept seems to be a good one...but I feel that this hard to find H & H and Palmer stuff is archaic and could be done with modern and better means...yes..no...maybe..I dunno yet..

I just want the EXACT tone I get when I'm practicing with my uber as I do when I crank the damn thing...but that's just way too much to ask for I guess....isn't it always.

When John and I were playing together ...it was duelling midrange knobs..to get the right amount of "cut" in the mix of the two...and he plays LOUD...I mean really LOUD....but his tone doesn't "honk".it's that damn VHT 2150...those KT88s.!!!!!

I'm not a gambling man...not at all...so I don't really want to decrease the value of the amp by any modding...but if it'll do what I want...then i'll just keep it.

and I'm also wondering about trading my Marshall stuff for a Vetta...but I need to hear one of those fukkers in my house , at great length ..before I decide such things..

              Re: NAMM- New Bogner...

Bill - you may have enough latitude on your bias control to fit 6L6s in there. I'd call Bogner and see what they think... it's a lot easier to run 6L6 tubes in an EL34 amp than the other way around. You may be able to adjust the bias on the amp to support 6L6s. If not, you can change one resistor in the bias supply to give it correct range. 6550s may also be an option - again, talk to Bogner. I bet you can sub different tubes in that amp with few if any mods.

The other difference between EL34s and 6L6s are screen resistors - the EL34s are usually 1k, 6L6s are generally 470. However, you can leave the screen resistors alone - you'll just lose a tiny bit of power.

Too bad you don't live near me, I'd wait for a few weeks when we weren't gigging and let you borrow the Vetta. I wouldn't have bought mine if I hadn't been able to borrow one for a weekend and take it for a spin first.

              Pete

Yeah that is what this thread should be about... Sorry I took it off on the Uber tangent..

What that amp is I don't know ... I need to though.. Reinhold wouldn't let us play it because he didn't want a ticket from the noise police (it was after the show closed)
