This is the preamp I loved!
GREAT sound and enough gain to do the death metal.

Not sure of the power amp. 2x20?
I guess that would be bit low watt to use if it was for me.
I have seen these preamp sell for $300-400.
You could probably get a different power amp for less money but more power such as ADA,older Marshall and Mesa.

I have the 50/50 - kicks ass - separate presence/vol for each channel, and has NEVER let me down...

Dinkyjackson said it fairly well. pricing etc.

Engl is great stuff in general, very high quality. I don't know much of that particular preamp but from what I've heard it has nice tone. Whether its your tone, is debatable of course. I've played a lot of the older preamps and they never had the gain I wanted till I saw the E570/580 stuff. Which is stellar gain. The older stuff I felt was slayerish sounding as far as gain, and sounded VERY cool into a Marshall 800 which had some gain already. That was a seriously cool combo, E520 into a Marshall 800. Niiice.

Some clips here at rocksolidamps of the E530, but they are all mid to no gain. No really high gain clips What they have here sound about lkike the E520 full out in gain.

Don't do it! You will regret it later. Just keep the head and get a 2x12 G-Flex and put your books on top of it or something!

I used to have a HUGE freaking rack in my college room... you need your toys with you in order to avoid madness.

Cleve: Point taken... lots of gain in those clips. Awesome sounding toy I think. The powerball sounds sweeeet...

Guys: Thanks for your advice.

Avoid the 20/20 although the EL84 amps are awesome there is no headroom.

Powerball is awesome, yes it is...

ive been thinking about the 2bye twelve idea, but i dunnno man. 100 watts in a dorm room seems kinda overkill

I too have the Powerball and it's the best amp I've ever bought. It really shreds for deathmetal and speedmetal.I swapt the pre amp tubes for jj high gainers and is ungodly brutal. You can't go wrong with ENGL.
