AX84 project

Has anyone here ever built an AX84 amp? I'm thinking about trying a P1 sometime in the next few months, mostly just for educational purposes. I imagine it has a nice clean sound, but does anybody have anything to say about the distorted tone?

I'd appreciate any comments or advice.

the distorted tone isn't there on a P1... you'd be better off with the hi-octane, but it is NOT a good amp for a beginner to build.

Thanks, I thought that might be the case. Would I be able to either push it into distortion with an OD pedal, or could I mod it into an Octane as I learn more? I didn't really want to tackle the Octane as my first project, either.

yeah, you can mod it into a HO later... but might be fun to build the P1, and then build a HO after - have two amps! It's a fun hobby that can be very addictive.
