  • Tone diff w/ various tubes?

Can someone explain the tone difference with the various top tubes.

I have been looking to get a VHT power amp, 2150, 2902 etc., and I see them listed with a variety of tubes. kt 90 output tubes instead of kt88 or 6550 power tubes or Svetlana EL34's etc. What are the main deferences with these tubes.

The tone I am going for is the standard wet, loose heavy over saturated death metal crunch. I would also like to be able to switch to a tighter crunch like the tone on Exodus’ Fabulous Disaster, or maybe the first S.O.D CD or even something like the tone the guy from the Hatebreed gets.

Which tubes are best for these kind of tones?

FYI, for the front end I will be using a Line 6 Pod Pro XT (with the metal pack which has the 5150, Bogner Uber, Soldano, etc.). I also sometimes use my Digitech 2112 (but I will probably be selling that soon (to help fund the VHT, lol ).

You'd be better off going with KT88's then. They give you a pretty clear sound without coloring it much. Use the gain and tone adjustments on your preamp to get the variations in tone that your looking for.

    The bigger the better!
    The tighter the sweater!
