Re: Mesa Boogie Roadking?????????

I am planning on buying a RK with a custom finish. I live in NY. Where are you guys seeing the best deals on this amp? I am looking for a combo 2X12 but I had considered a head with a seperate 2X12 cabinet. Any opinions? Thanks

Mesa sets the minimum price at which dealers can sell their amps. So, go to your favorite dealer and buy from them. As for the combo or head/cab... I'd go for the head can cab combo, it seems more flexible to me.

Isn't that price fixing? And if it is, isn't that illegal in the US?

It has alot of features but nothing on it sounds particularly good in my experience.

No, because no one dealer is given an unfair competitive advantage over another. Price fixing is artifically inflating the price on a comodity that is in short supply and high demand, and generally you only hear it discussed with regards to essential items. Despite how nice these amps are, you are capable of living without one, unlike say, water or electricity (although it's a close call, when you can just piss in the woods )

It is also not considered price fixing because they are only doing that on there own product. Now if they were the only Guitar amp makers in the world then it could be considered price fixing!

I can't believe people say the clean channel of the recto sucks. I think mine is absolutely stunning.

I've NEVER had ANY trouble with Mesa branded tubes. As far as reliability, even if you got the shittiest Mesa with all the problems, Mesa will take care of you NO MATTER WHAT.

They have by far some of the best customer service, then and PRS.

I personally think the RK is an awesome amp. I didn't buy one, I bought a Recto, but the RK is sweet.

the "price fixing" Mesa does is not illegal. All dealers (I'm told) are charged the same price. All dealers are to sell at the same price. In a way it prevents dealers from blowing amps out at cost, or jacking them through the roof.

                        Re: Mesa Boogie Roadking?????????

The reason that mesa sets the price on their amps is so that their customers can buy the amps from the store with the best service, which is not always the same store as the one with the lowest prices.

Say I want to custom order a specific grill and tolex cover on a Mesa, do I do it through them directly or do I have to go through a dealer?

I think you can do it either way, either threw your dealer or threw the mesa hollywood shop, give them a call they are always happy to answer your calls.
