Clean channel distorting?

I have a Marshall AVT50H and sometimes when playing in the clean channel it seems as though the amp fades in and out into the overdrive channel basically ruining the ability to play clean. It is very annoying. Since I know basically nothing of the innerworkings of an amp I was hoping maybe some of you had an idea of what might be wrong with it.

has it only started doing it lately?, have you got any effects running into/with it, tried another guitar? Need a lil more info dude
