Re: poweramp guys help me out

I use both solid state and tube in different applications. I find the response time of solid state to be just fine..it is the decay rate where it seems to fizzle out the note when it gets to a certain point or DB that doesn't appeal overall to me. SS is articulate, but tubes for some reason just 'feel' more alive. For the money tho, on the whole, SS is a great reliable amp that is transparent. Not knocking it, each is good for its respective application.

Has anyone tried the ENGL poweramps? Just asking because I'm in the market for their preamp (E570).

I've heard Marshalls construction can be tempermental and not just here. You never know how substantiated those claims are tho unless you hear it from someone who has owned them. Tube power amps are best shock mounted regardless of make but not everyone can afford a shock mount rack.
I've never tried the carvin which is supposed to be a decent amp. ADA has an EL34 model as well which is two spaced but I've only seen them up for sale on ebay .. they're still pretty pricey.

I owned one of the Marshall black faced poweramps (forget the model #). It blew up twice in three or four years. It sounded much better than the crown poweramp I was using before, but no where near as good as the 2:90 that replaced it. (Neither of which can touch the mighty 2150)

That is good to know as I was considering one of the monoblocks or a 9005 blackface. The 9005 seemed very similar with respect for it being 3 space to the Peavey save for it runs el34's.

I have had the mono block, but got rid of it, to big, to heavy and like said the quality just wasnt there. Right i presently own a newer mesa 50/50 and i am running EL34's and it sounds great. The older 50/50's only allow you to run 6L6's, but depending on your type of music that might be what you want.
