• JCM800 + Metal Zone =???

Death Metal.
Crushing tone.
Here is the simplest way for me to describe the tone.
Imagine stacking a Single Rectifier on top of a JCM800 and turning them both up to 10.
If I ever needed a tone this crushing I would be scared.
I think the combination works so well because the Marshall is very midrange heavy and the Metal Zone is a scooped sizzle rich stomp box. They actually play really well off of each other. This tone is almost as heavy as the Lurchhammer settings I got for the Dual Rectifier that involved using 2 Metal Zones.

I love my MT-2 Metal Zone stomp box with my Marshall. I would never need the amount of saturation that I could get with this setup.

that is the old thrash and deathmetal standard right there. so many albums were recorded like that.

So ya finally got it? What setting is the Metal Zone on? I tried hooking it up to a few amps and it send it into insane unusable overdrive.

The Metal Zone is so underrated. It kills through my RG100ES.

I just middle of the roaded all of the knobs on the Metal Zone, I dialed down the gain on my JCM800 to 3 and cranked up the volume. The controls on the JCM800 are basically flat. Holy crap. Actually, I fiddled with the controls and I couldn't really get it to sound bad. It even sounds good through the clean channel of the JCM.

I bought a MZ when they first came out. It was blazing cool. Too bad at the time I was poor college student and had to trade it in for mic stands for the next band I joined. The other guitarist in that band was just as poor. He traded an original TubeScreamer for mic stands too! AHHH!

Metal Zones - pah! The BOSS Heavy Metal was where the real tone could be found. Man, I miss that pedal.

The Heavy Metal pedal is nothing more than a DS-1 with a black paint job.

I used to hate the metalzones, but now I love them. That parametric is what gives it the big bang for sure. Definitely a cool sound with an 800!

I guess I should give the MT-2 another chance.
I used one in the old Gorilla/Fender Champ days and I thought it was the coolest, then thought it was WAY hissy and noisy and just made everything fuzzy with a Randall SS and Crate SS amp. I guess I need to try it with a 'real' amp. John hasn't made a bad suggestion yet IMO.

How does it sound compared to the single rec you were looking at?

Analogman has some good sound clips of a modded Metal Zone. His mod certainly beefs up the sound and takes the thin buzz out of it.

Mine has no buzz/fuzz I have one of the first Metal Zones, it's so beat up you can barely read anything on it. Every other metal zone I have tried sounds kind of thin next to it.

the trick is to set up your marshall to its best clean sound. then tweak the MT2 to you likings.
