As new products turn out to not be the Holy Grails they're advertised as, people recall the older stuff with fondness, and the price goes up. People are really rediscovering the Peavey VTMs too; if you want a JCM800 without paying the tab they're a pretty good choice.
Prices will be up from now until just before Christmas, then they'll drop again for 4-5 months. Taxes do affect it, whether you'e getting a refund or waiting to see if you can keep your house before stuffing it with more gear.
