• Gibson late 70's pickup..."Dirty Fingers"?

Anybody remember them?
I'd love to find a working set.
Remember several players who had them and swore by them.

I personally do not care how it was built as long as it is a good playing/sounding instrument.

my friend had a original one, he liked it, but he said it was very noisey and sold it.

then that dude from blink182 got them to do reissues, but he said they don't sound ass good as the first ones.

I think the are great if thats the sound you are looking for-love them in the neck position.probably my favorite neck pickup. The bridge is usable but not necesarilly what I am after, sound great in mahogany guitars but I like in pick up in that wood. Getting hard to find and going up in value.

Wow, I had no idea they reissued them.
Yeah, I'm mainly looking for the originals.
It doesn't surprise me their value has gone up.
Thanks.

Noisy but they sound decent after a good repotting. To me they sound like an anemic Dimarzio Super Distortion.
The guys who swear by them are usually after an early Stones/Aerosmith type tone. I wouldn't recommend them for any type of metal.

Those were Dan Armstrong designed, I believe. They used to come stock in ES-347s, and they always sounded good to me in that guitar. They were great for Molly Hatchet/.38 Special type of Southern rock sounds with a decent tube amp (like an old Acoustic). good times....

john sykes used them back in the whitesnake days.

now he uses the PAF reissue from Gibson.

My friend had them in his old Explorer. I thought they killed, but that was years ago, and time ages memories very well.

Re: Gibson late 70\'s pickup...\"Dirty Fingers\"?

They were the original pickups in my '81 Les Paul XR-1:

In that pic, the bridge p'up had been replaced w/ A dimarzio. I may have the old one somewhere, I'll have to look....In fact, I may have the whole set, since I replaced both of those w/ Duncans:

It's been so long since I had the bridge DF in there, that I can't really remember what I thought of it tone-wise. The neck p'up was nice enough though...
