It's a little buzzy, but then again I'm comparing it to my tube head. For what its worth, my brother has had a Transtube Supreme (older model) for years and it really has held up good. Cheap, reliable, and sounds decent, while not being real heavy = perfect for a practice head!

mine is very tube like and not at all buzzy or i would not have bought it.
i use emg's with mine and dial back the pre-amp gain a bit
everyone that has heard it says they think it sounds better than my marshall 2203x with a zakk MXR OD pedal?
If it's not a CHARVEL then i dont want to play it,look at it or even fuckin THINK about it!

His is the older one, and I'm a tube fanatic, so I'm probably not the best person to ask for info on it, but I have played through it alot. I didn't spend a lot of time dialing in a good tone tho, and only in the last year or so I started using a lot of mids, so chances are if I dialed it in again it would sound even better.

Re: Peavey XXL good practice amp?

I had a XXL for about a year and my only gripe with it was the footswitch. The amp itself sounded great, but I wanted quick and easy acces to all 3 channels. You have to double toggle sometimes to get between the 2 dirty channels from the clean,,but this is really a very minor complaint. They are built like tanks and sound great.

I had one for a while, good amp the 25watt option is great. Just not my sound, but very good at low volume.

I have the XXX and like it better, but I have to say the XXL kicks alot more ass than most tube-amps on the market.
