• Dumb question - Combo to Head conversion JCM800

So I know even if you had a head to put the innards from a combo into, the controls would be upside down and backwards, but are there any technical issues for the conversion?
I'm am not really seriously considering this, but I kinda would like to get a head sometime (pun intended).

I just want to use a cabinet instead of the combo speaker and it'd odd looking and bulky hanging a 4 X 12 off of the cab.

Instead of actually removing the electronics from the combo, why not just remove the speaker, then cut out the middle section? That is....

1. Remove the speaker
2. Saw just below the electronic (top) section and just above the bottom,l removing the middle section
3. Glue the bottom to the top
4. Re-Tolex
5. Assuming that the speakers are direct wired, you could also install a 1/4" female jack on the rear of the new "head."

Wouldn't this work?

that's a lot harder and looks ghetto. it's not a big deal or expense to have a cab made. there are several companies that will do this. and they will make it look right. with the cab being more fender like (tubes hanging down) your controls won't be upside down.

Yeah,
I'd like to keep it so I could put it back as a combo if I had to. Building/buying a cabinet for the head probably makes the most sense.

Got any linkage to cab manufacturers or design plans? I guess I could always just measure off of the original.

Yup, I'm probably very likely to never attempt this, but doing 'what ifs' keeps my mind off of actually buying something for a couple of days
