  • Delay pedal question - help please!

Hey everyone. I am currently learning the intro to Extreme's He-man Woman Hater (Flight Of The Bumblebee) and I have it down pretty good. As I understand it, Nuno used delay throughout. I do not have alot of experience with pedals and absolutely none with delay pedals. I was looking/interested in the Boss DD3 or DD6, but the only place I can try one out is in Detroit which is over 50 miles away. Would either of these pedals fit for this application or would they be overkill, etc? Any help/information will be appreciated. Thanks ahead of time.

It's a very personal thing, gear in general. I sold both a DD6 and DD3 because I didn't like em too much, but others love em. I personally have had success with the Line 6 Delay pedal, and that's what I could recommend. Thing to do might be just buy em off of those music store sites (musiciansenemy or music123) and take advantage of that 30 return policy

You'll have to set the pedal to play a dotted 8th note single repeat. Just about any delay pedal will do this, but what makes it hard is to tweak the delay time just right. I'd recommend using a pedal with a 'tap tempo' feature, so you can just tap your foot to the delay you want.

My vetta allows you to do that, and THEN choose the note - quarter, 1/2, dotted, 16th, whatever that the repeats are within the bpm. Makes it a lot easier than trying to dial it in with a knob.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I will look into the Line 6/Vetta stuff as well.

I really like the boss ones, and I generally dont like boss.

I compared the DD-6 to the DD-3, side by side, and the DD-6 has more gadgets and goofy functions, but when it comes to the standard delay, the DD-3 sounds alot warmer and less metallic sounding than the DD-6. I dont really understand how a delay can be harsh or warm sounding, but they do, the DD-3 sounded like the warmer unit, AND its cheaper.

So I would try out a DD-3, Im probably going to get one soon.
