A guitar head will be fine into a bass cabinet. I used to use a cheap Gorilla amp with 8" speaker years ago, then I decided to run into an OD pedal and stereo chorus pedal to split the signal between the Gorilla and a Peavey bass combo with 15" speaker... the low end from the bass amp mixed very well with the guitar amp and sounded great. It also sounded great by itself without the guitar amp.
Just don't plug a bass into a guitar amp or you may blow the speakers from the low end frequencies.

I've always heard that bass speaker voice coils will blow (fry, melt, cook, burn out, whatever) because they can't handle the higher guitar ranges.
But then, people have used Bassmans for years with guitar

Maybe they were talking about 15s and such, not 8s and 10s

Yep, one of SRV's favorite amp was a Fender Bassman.

Re: Bass Cab + Guitar Head?

OK a Bassman ..That is the only amp that is known for guitarists ...and it works just fine for many...like Joe Walsh and SRV and whatnot..

An old friend of mine was a blues guitarist and he loved his old bassman...that and a old tube screamer..

but that tone is NOT for me...

Agreed. I finally got to try a real Bassman with a guitar once. It lacked something...tone, I think it was
