  • Speaker impedance mismatch??

    Question..
I have a Fender Ultra Chorus combo. It is solid state and has 2 12" 8 ohm Fender speakers in it that are blown. It is a true stereo (65w per side) combo. Is it an acceptable mismatch to put 4 ohm speakers in it or am I gonna fry something.

You could put 8 or 16 ohms in there but just a 4 ohm load per side is likely to be a problem. With 16 ohm speakers you will not get the same volume as with 8.

Assuming we're talking about the Ultimate Chorus, this manual says it's rated at 8 ohms.

I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

Yes you are supposed to lose some volume by going to higher impedance speakers, although I have been using my Randall 8 ohm output into a 16 ohm speaker cab, and to be honest it doesn't sound any different to the 4 ohm output into my 4 ohm cab. It's always best to go with a higher load than a lower one.
