Those are fairly rare from what I hear. Not sure how they sound compared to a head through a cab.

No I went with an SLO that was on eBay instead. For a few hundred more it was worth having the clean/crunch channel there also. Besides I have always regarded the SLO as my favorite amp so it just made sense. I'd still love to hear an Avenger though.

I read somewhere that Soldano will upgrade the Avenger transformers to the DeYoung's. For a fee of course. But I bet that sounds absolutely killer. I'm extremely happy with the SLO. The one I got has KT66's. I'm digging the tight bottom end and bright SLO highs.

Awesome. I use kT66's in mine too. The bottom is so much fuller and tighter with KT66's. The SLO combos are rare as hell. I wonder too how they sound.

Firebird V, I'm definitely liking the KT66's with the SLO. They give it more low end girth. I replaced the GT KT66's that it came with and threw in some new production Tung Sol KT66's. They blow the GT's away. The bottom end is a little tighter and it sounds a bit warmer and more musical. That and the construction is way better than the GT bottles. They are a weird KT66 though. They spec out like an 6L6GC as far as plate woltage and plate dissipation go. But they are built in KT88 sized bottles. I will need to burn them in and re-bias, but so far they kick some. Just out of curiousity what control settings do you like using on your SLO's OD channel?
