Re: Uberschall the good bad and ugly

Yep ...i love my Uber...and that was me that said it didn't have a line out..

My only complaint is the EL34s...I'm not a fan of those tubes....but I never was..

I grimmaced soon as I learned that was in the Uber...and for all the reasons that I have already confirmed to myself..

I don't need to be vesatile...I'm not a versatile player...I use one sound...full out shred...and the Uber does that very well....the best amp I ever owned or heard for my style of playing..PERIOD!!

but I am very curious about other boutique amps ..such as The Framus Cobra and Engl stuff...just for curiousity sake..

When are you doing the Engl checkout? I still say the Uber is going to own the powerball...

The original ubers had the 6l6 tubes in it. Bogner replaced them with the el34 because the amp is so tight. It loosened the tone up some. I love el34 and kt88 they are my favs. I dont think its bad at all to have el34 in the uber. allthough I would love to hear how kt88 would sound in it. I think that would be out of controll tone wise.
I think the engl stuff is ok, but no way near an uber tone wise. Horns you aint gonna do no better than what you already have. I play alot of different styles and I bought 3 different heads to suite each style. If you are looking for anothertype of metal tone you should really check out the Mark Cameron modded Marshalls. I know I keep talking about this guys mods and people are problaby tired of me saying it,but his shit is the best. If you want that Doug Aldrich, John Norum tone he can get it and then some. I have 2 Marshalls that he did and they are unreal. I brought one to my buddy that works at a local GC and people were freaking out from the tone these heads get.

That is cool guys...Parntz..I hear nothing but good things about that Mark Cameron dude..

Jose Arrandando (sp) ...was the dude back in the day...a friend of mine had his Marshal done by him back in 86...he waited over a year to get his amp back...and when he did...he hated it and put it back to original...after $1100 later..

I have a very good feeling that my Uber is going to squash the Powerball like a bug..for one I have it dialed up pretty damn good...and my playing is pretty aggressive..and COCKY!

But this dude is kinda cocky too...he's with Ripper Owens now..

so we will get these damn things side by side..

BUT I got majorly sidetracked...I'm picking my Factory Five AC Cobra up Tues...my baby's comin' home...

don't think I'll be playing much uber in the basement when Cobra is in the geerage!

Go try one they rule for metal. I laugh when people think a recto can keep up with it. I have never heard a recto that didnt sound like a giant fart box. And I use to be the biggest Mesa user/fan. Now they sound like farty mush to me.

I used to have a Triple recto....and i totally agree.......sounds sooo hollow.........i too havent been able to find an uberschall to try....how are guitar stores in the states, because its quite hard to find the "boutique amps" around here. eg: VHT, BOGNER, ENGL..........

Re: Uberschall the good bad and ugly

I bought a new Recto when they first came out...that add with the armadillo on top of a half stack..

they suck ass...you are right...Mushy , farty ..and fuzzy....I liked my 5150s wayyyyy better than the Recto at the time...around 91-92

I couldn't dial up a "tight" sound for metal to save my life...so I traded that piece of crap for a Soldano..

even worse than a Recto is ANY new Marshall right out of the box...I had a new 100 wat DSL ...me and John played with it for a week ...We couldn't sell that dead turd fast enough!!!

Hey Horns, I started reading this post and just couldnt believe that the uber was getting put down the way it was. I know you have always loved yours and have had nothing bad to say about it. I got mine and love it. I was thinking about selling it to cover the price of another modded Marshall, but I already have 2 modded Marshalls and what is the point of a 3rd. I started really playing with the uber and there is no way in hell I would ever get rid of it. I cant even believe I was thinking of selling it. You really have to play with the presence knob that can really change the tone dramaticaly. How about sending me some of your settings? I always love to hear other peoples taste. Paul

Re: Uberschall the good bad and ugly

My settings are pretty extreme really.....

OK from left to right ..dirty channel only..

The channel VOLUME knob is pushed until the G major just goes into the red....the input of the G Major is all the way up and the G major's "output"...for my overall Volume..as a master volume...this is important!!!

Presence is at EXACTLY 9:00..this knobs works mostly in conjuction with the Midrange knob..to my ears.

Treble is all the way up...maxed!

Middle is at EXACTLY 10:00....any more than that at high volume levels it starts to give too much a midrange "honk" to my ears..

BASS is maxed...all the way up..

GAIN is MAXED...MAXED ...MAXED!!!!!

Over to the far left is the Master Volume....that never goes past 12:00....that is plenty loud enough..like I said above...I use the G Major's OUTPUT as my main Master volume..

Everytime I start to touch the setting from where it is set...I lose "Something"...so this setting is etched in stone for me..

This is where the Uber sounds BEST to ME...in a single guitar band..

when I played with John I had to boost the Presence and Mids a bit more...which I didn't like...but worked better with his sound..(CAE / VHT 2150) .

Re: Uberschall the good bad and ugly

i have a powerball and a uberschall. i use them both with a uber cab. i love both of them but i like my powerball a little bit better. its voiced in the higher mids and the uber is more lower mids. either one of them kick the rectifiers ass. i had a recto for 2 years and tweeked it and boosted it but wasnt happy. i change from day to day on which i like better. somedays i play the uber and i think its the best ever and other days the powerball. i think the uber is built better. there different tone wise. i recommend to uber and the gain ch. is awsome. its a bit looser and has more lows than the powerball.

Very nice topic!
I own one of the older model myself and I love it. Best amp for metal i've ever tried by far, including VHT UL (with EQ), every single model of recto out there and TriAxis, a whole parade of Marshalls, and so on... I would like to try a Herber, though.
Anyway, and i know it will sound a little crazy, but has anyone tried a tube screamer or any other kind of overdrive pedal with it? if so, how was your experience?
I know it's got more than enough gain, but I'm just courios as It's worked well for me.

Best amp for metal...yep I agree...hadn't heard anything better yet...not up close...not in front of MY face..

I want to check out that dude with the powerball...but I have other things to take care of at the moment...I got a bit sidetracked..

BTW...Yes I crank the Uber's gain all the way up...as soon as I back it off just a tad...it instantly loses some balls...so that bastage is glued there!

I use a TC Electronics Booster/Line Driver in front of my Uber and they sound so good together that I wouldn't dream of playing without the pedal!!! It tightens the amp up in a big way and pretty much eliminates the sag. Makes it cut thru much better too.

Horns 666: I can't believe you have the gain that high! I'm not knocking you, but my Uber (first version) is completely saturated at 9:00 on the gain knob. Try backing the gain down to 12:00 (from your maxed out position) and hit the amp with a clean boost. It'll be like a whole new amp. The Uber takes pedals better than any other amp I've tried!

I prefer to keep my presence very high and I scoop a bit with the mid knob. My treble is maxed too. I use V30s + G12H30s and this setting works very well with these speakers.
