• Signal Boost For Solos?

I'm looking for something floor controled that i can use to boost the volume levels of my solos live. I am currently running a 5150, and I use one of the channels for clean. Any ideas? An EQ?

EQ pedal would be best in terms of affordability, ease of setup, and the fact that you can boost a particular freq so that you really don't have to crank the volume to cut through.

You could always put a volume pedal in the effects loop.

you could try finding an old mxr micro amp, although they are hard to find, and kinda noisy, or a boss compressor, or a seymour duncan pickup booster, or, like toejam said, a volume pedal.
Its a complete catastrophe. But Im a professional, I can rise above it. LOL

Fulltone Booster is good.
You can set the boost level at very low level and volume up.

Also Boss GE-7 would be nice.

Are you talking for a distortion channel? If you are, here is the problem. Distortion is compression by nature. Putting a boost on the front end of a distortion channel will just give mostly more distortion dur to the compression of the distorting preamp in the amp. Put something like a eq pedal set flat with the level to what you want your boost to be or a MXR MicroAmp (I have found the switching on the MXR to noisy for this application) or DOD FET pre amp pedal in the effects loop. The trick here is to boost AFTER the preamp to avoid the compression happening in the preamp. I have been doing this for years with my Carvin legacy head, and it works like a charm.

My brother uses a Seymour Duncan booster pedal in the effects loop of his 5150 to do just that. It works great for him. My personal favorite clean boosts are the PHI Electronics boost and the Xotic RC.

the boss ge7 has a volume slider, it has worked great as a boost for my solos on my legacy and uberschall. And there is no "pop" sound like the MXR makes when its engaged in the loop.

GE-7 It also gives you the option of changing the overall tone of your solo when it boosts.

I've got an JCM900 SL-X that does that very thing.
An EQ pedal is your best bet

Re: Signal Boost For Solos?

I was gonna recommend a Bad Bob Boost. I bought a few boost pedals a while back and this one really stood out. Great clean boost - doesn't mess with the fundamental tone.

For a long time I used a Tube Screamer - the current TS808 reissue is freakin' cool!

The ultimate boost/overdrive IMO is the Klon. It is an awesome clean boost. Really helps thicken up the sound. As an overdrive pedal I've not heard anything as good. One of my favorite tones ever was Jackson Korina Explorer -> Klon overdrive -> Dr. Z Maz SR 1x12 combo.
I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

So we should really put our boost pedals in the effects loop?

Hmmm, will have to try that with me BadMonkey.
