    Re: Signal Boost For Solos?

I was wondering how to do this on a distorted channel. I like to have a lightly distorted solo (ala Santana) sometimes, but using a signal boost only screws that all up. So far, I've just been using a totally different distortion pedal that has the volume turned up and the gain down to boost me up, then switch the amplifiers distortion off. It's kinda hard to manage on stage, especially to where the footswitch has no LED. It's never fun to have to hit more than one effect at a time.

Have you tried rearranging your pedal order? Where you stick a boost pedal can really matter because a lot of stompboxes don't deal to well with a really hot signal.
I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

So we should really put our boost pedals in the effects loop?

Hmmm, will have to try that with me BadMonkey.

Here is the absolute 100% truth from good ole Johnny G:

If you are using a 2 channel amp with 1 channel clean and 1 channel distorted (gain channel) you need to put any kind of preamp or boost pedal in the effects loop for solo boost on the gain channel. Solo boost on the clean channel can be achieved with a preamp pedal in front of the amp or in the effects loop. It is a much cleaner boost if it is in the loop.

I have a 5150 and I run my digitech through the effects loop. I usually use the compressor on my board to boost the signal for solos. Works great. I would say that a compressor or eq pedal would work great. Just be very carefull because the signal is very sensative, start off level and work you way up to the level you want.

Exactly...be careful and make small adjustments.
