They both have my interest. What is the story with these preamps? Are they as good as everybody says they are?

Re: ADA MP-1, MP-2
I have a MP-1, and I love it.....very Marshally, MIDI capable, 128 presets, onboard chorus if wanted.....
I'm going to have mine modded to the 3 tube model....and the noise mod.....
Plus, they are relatively cheap on E-Bay...if it wasn't "you" you could flip it for about the same as you bought it....so IMO, you can't lose.

Re: ADA MP-1, MP-2
i loved the distortion but could not get a good, loud clean sound. since i need both, i dumped it. i would buy another in a minute though for recording projects because the "heaviness" is good. it sounds like adrian smith on the bruce dickinson albums.GEAR:
some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!
some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!
and finally....
i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

I have the MP-2 and it is everything the MP-1 is and more. It also has a built-in variable envelope filter.

Also PEte who used to post here (xcreaturex) swears by the MP-2 it has more gain and seems to be better overall. He uses his with the ADA Microtube and gets an excellent death/grindcore tone out of it
The MP-1 was more popular easier to find and cheaper... A lot of peole hate the MP-2 that love the MP-1 so go figureI keep the bible in a pool of blood

+1 I had an MP-2, sold it, regretted it, couldn't find another one, and bought an MP-1 as a replacement. The MP-1 sounded very good but to my ears it was a bit noisier than the MP-2 and definitely doesn't have as much gain available. For you guys that are concerned about the noise, I believe the MP-1 Classic version (last one made IIRC) is somewhat quieter.Catapultam habeo. Re: ADA MP-1, MP-2
I love my MP-1 and use it with a Digitech TSR12. I haven't noticed it being as noisy as folks are saying, though
I keep the Input knob set about 3:00 and the Output at 9:00 - maybe that's why?
Anyhoo, It doesn't sound that good to me by itself, so I use the built-in EQ AND the TSR's EQ to shape the sound.
And as was stated, it's very difficult to get a nice loud clean tone. I had to build my distorted patches (Volume and such) around the Clean tone.
I might put a 12AY7 or T7 in it to see if I can get a better clean, cuz it's got more than enough gain for me.I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

Re: ADA MP-1, MP-2
I have an MP-1 with a mod4MkII and noise mod done and is totally awesome. I have it going into a quadraverb and then to a JCM900, I also have in there an EQ and HUSH.
Forget getting a clean sound out of the thing, I just got another pre-amp for cleans(not another MP-1). I hook all these upto a Rocktron patchmate and I can switch anything i want off or on.
