I just grabbed an ART DST-4 preamp and X-11 MIDI controller on eBay, and I'm wondering if anyone here has used the DST-4, specifically for recording. The auction was for both items, but didn't include a MIDI cable, so I haven't tested the X-11. Sucks since it appears that the DST-4 requires MIDI control to adjust the effects and switch preamp channels, but that's beside the point.
I'm mainly interested in how well the preamp works for recording direct, since I'm in an apartment and can't crank my amp loud enough for a good recorded tone. The DST-4 has 2x12 and 4x12 cab simulators for the direct output, which I think will give me exactly the sound I'm looking for, being a longtime Xtreme distortion fan.
Anyone have experience with this unit? Does the tube channel sound good?
