• Laney, Boss, Carvin

What the heck. I am giving all 5 of these the 2 thumbs up for performance, quality and value. The following products are unofficially endorsed by me.

Carvin MTS3200 100w Tube head
Laney PL100HR Pro Linebacker 100w SS head
Boss GT-6 Guitar Effects Processor
Mesa 3/4 open back 1 x 12 cabinet
Fender Ultra Chorus (its just like a JC120)

Just add guitars. Look at all the scenarios you could handle with the above:
Small gigs, coffee house gigs, home jams, recording, larger gigs, you no longer need:
wah, preamps, any type of Boss effect, distortion boxes, fuzz, solo boosters, noise gate, tuner, occasional keyboard player for string parts, 7 string guitars, harmonizers, delays, chorus, flangers, phase shifters, reverb, DI box, volume pedal, pitch shifter. You also no longer need an acoustic for that rare time you need one live. The GT6 has the AC-2 built in!
You can use the Carvin for gigs and the Laney for a back up head or visa versa, you can use the Fender Ultra for coffee house or small gigs for that occasional blues or jazz gig. The Mesa cab throws huge sound and if you need more for a large gig you can either add a cabinet or run another line out from the GT6 directly to the board.
All you do is hook the GT6 to the effects return on your amp. Now... plug your guitar into the GT6. You are officially set up and ready to gig.
I spent almost 10 minutes thinking about this so cut me some slack!

I think it is the exact same thing. Mine was made in 1992. I think Fender had to stop calling them Ultimate Chorus because another company had an amp by that name. The newer versions have DSP effects. Mine just has a spring reverb and outstanding stereo chorus. I took it all apart too just to check it out. It is very well made inside.
Why would you stay away from one? I haven't heard anything bad about this model. Fill me in!!

One just sold a few days ago on Ebay for $300.00 on a Buy Now. They pop up occasionally and usually go pretty cheap. I think people are finally realizing that the Laney PL100HR is a nice SS 100w head. A few years ago you could have picked one up for $150.00. They are double that now.

Re: Laney, Boss, Carvin

i had an ultimate chorus back in the mid 90s (probably between 95 to 98)
there was just not enough volume to keep up with a drummer, and it also rattled alot when turned up real loud.
the distortion sounded thin and buzzy (i know it's a ss fender), but really unusable.
but...the chorus did sound very lush and the cleans were good at a medium level.

I replaced the speakers with Carvin Vin 30 clones. I am not a fan of Fender distortion although its useable. The clean channel is very nice. The reverb is typical Fender outstanding and the stereo chorus is lush. I can turn this sucker REALLY loud and it doesn't rattle at all. Maybe its the speakers? For a small coffee house or bar gig doing blues/jazz or older rock tunes it would be perfect.
