They were an improved Vox, but not just the AC30. i.e., the DC30 has both the AC15 and AC30 preamps but with a Orange style FAQ switch.

I should add that the Chiefton and Super Chief were original designs. Also each Matchless amp had several improvements over Vox, but the layout was a huge step.
