GOR, if you want a Mark II C+, and don't have so much money, so why not getting a Mark III?

Heck no Endrik, the mojo on the IIC+ is unlike anything else! The legend drives it's price up considerably, but goddamn that legend is true, they sound divine!

I'm understanding them a lot better already. Especially Shawn's post cleared up a lot of stuff!

I'm not even in the least bit a fan of the newer nu-metal, IN FACT I despise (with a passion) The New Wave Of American Heavy Metal stuff and all stuff like it (no offense to anyone). I like classic, but BALLSY tone!

So the 6550's are the best route to go?

My choice for a classic but BALLSY tone is the E34L.
It has the bottom of a 5881 and the midrange punch of a EL34. You can also get integrated quads that mix the 2.

Damn I don't get that Mojo thing II C+ is an AWSOME amp, but Mark III rocks more, I like the lead tone better on III, but maybe it's just me.

It's not really a lead-tone I'm looking for. First I wanna get a good and smoking rhythm-sound amp. Run the MKIIC+ through a fat PA like the Marshall or a VHT, put an EQ in and after some tweaking you'll have monstrous classic rhythm tone. (Very famous set-up this was, most of you probably know which one *cough*sig*cough*)

It's a matter of taste man, Mark III is awesome too!

I wouldnt go there, personaly i love sykes tone better them metallica, but you also have to remember both artists EQ there amp differntly.

Personaly any mesa amp sounds great, there is just alot of hype around the IIc and alot of that has to do with Metallica.

Other things you have to remember is tone is subjective, different strokes for different folks. And just so you know with amps like IIc's you will be doing ALOT of tweaking, you have to remember to get that tone they have it mic'd and tweaked every little way possible. There are alot of new amps out there that will give you close to the same tone with not as much tweaking, and even if you have the IIc there is no guarentee you will get the tone you are looking for, all amps are different even with in the same model series.

I agree with Siggy.

Anyway IMO the best rhythm tone is made with Mark III by John Sykes, on the Blue Murder's 1989 album and on the Whitesnake's 87 album.

The best metal tone IMO is made with Mark II C+ and Dual Recto by John Petrucci on the Dream Theater's Awake album

You hit it right on the head there 'IMO'.

I'm not in the market for moralising speeches and 'dont's' fingers, so please. I am fully aware of the situation. As you can tell, I get friggin' aggrivated when people put down my personal opinion, I don't do it to you either, do I?

Btw, stop buying all those EVH and whatever things then?

Tone and amp taste are in fact too subjective, therefore a single "best" tone does not exist. Everyone doesn't use the same set of ears or hear things exactly the same

GoR I think that an older JCM800 2203/04 will get what your looking for. If it doesn't you can try something else, use your ears and decide for yourself. I personally have always loved the Marshall tone for hard rock and "real" metal. I also love the way they cut through the mix live, the Marshall will deliver in that regard. As far as the 6550 or EL34's I think the reason I kept the 2203 was because of the 6550's but it could have been just one of the "good" ones of the bunch I have a other EL-34 based amps and I like them as well.

You also might want to try the Marshall JMP-1 with a power amp, i know both metallica and Iron Maiden use them, and with that set up you get many different options.
