Re: Marshall Amps.... YOU CHOOSE!!

for a bone stock out of the box Marshall...I want a 100wt , late 80's , 800 lead series w/reverb and channel switching...they are the best sounding IMO , "no stomps required"...out of the box..I had a few of those...not sure what the model # is...guys????

and I love my dual 100 wt. 9200 monobloc w / 5881s / JMP-1 / JFX-1..with a BBE 422 in the loop , ran in stereo into four 1960B cabs loaded w/ celestion 75s....Total Criss Oliva and Glen Drover tones to a >>T<<..it is the best Marshall sound in the world to my ears...no stomps required!!!!

I'm still in love with that setup...and I will NEVER get rid of it!

I like these two Marshal set ups best because..these are the only stock Marshalls that I discovered where you don't need any stomps to get jiggy!

all other Marshalls ...stomps are Mandatory....for metal that is..unless they are modded...but I'm talkin' no mods ..just straight out of the box.

That's right...I can NEVER keep that # in my head...

Thanks God Of Rythm....I like that head best...for the above stated reasons!

but I traded those two 2210s to get into my rack...I like my rack better....and I still love it very much!

it gave so many years of joy and faithful service since I bought it new 10 years ago ...and I rely on this thing so much...it is always there for me...and CONSISTANT...that is what I love most..it is consistant....I plug in a go...NO MORE TWEAKIN'...just playin'!

I found that there is a lot of great Marshall heads that are NOT consistant...you dial up a great tone one day...just to return the next day , and it sounds like crap...and you didn't touch a damn thing..that get's very old and frustrating.

my rack NEVER does that...that is why it is my favorite Marshall...and that is why I traded my two 2210s to get it.!

The head that is CLOSEST in tone to my rack is the 2210...but it more versatile (not that I care)...and most importantly it is consistant!

JMP Master volume 50 or 100 watt the input is sensitve enough to the volume control on you guitar to give you from clean to dirty if you know how to use it. ANY 70s or older marshall will do.

I like pedals. They add color to the stage floor and they give me a reason to buy 9v batteries and small patch cords.

John, my choice would be the 1987x. I think the fundamental tone of that amp is better than a JCM 800 (and I really like 800's as well). I had my 1987x modded by Splawn - sure it's a one-tricky pony but that trick KICKS ASS!!!

Mmm, I've got a JCM 800 2203 - not enough gain (without a pedal). Depends what you play, really. Loud as hell, though - they all go up to 11+. If they're good enough for Zakk...........(see BLS thread somewhere else!).

If you think Zakk's is stock you are on crack, all his stage amp's are pretty much dummies and he uses one amp behind the stage that is heavy modded, more then likley his metaltronics one from back when he first joined ozzy.

True - from my experience there's no way on earth he could sound like that through a stock one - like I said, not enough gain. The big wall of Marshall's still looks good on stage though, whatever's behind 'em.

Are you going to buy a Mesa Mk4 and put a Marshall badge on it? (sorry, couldn't resist)

Modded JMP, I am not a fan of the reissues but once modded anything can go.. I think the reissues made in 1988 the 1987S, are alot hotter than the 'X' series.

Re: Marshall Amps.... YOU CHOOSE!!

No, I bought a JCM800 & Marshall 4x12 & left the Marshall badges on them The Mesa sits next to it (but is only the 50W single rec. combo)- but it goes through the Marshall 4x12. Whatever works Like I said, The JCM didn't have enough gain & I didn't want to use too many pedals - although I did get some good sounds using the JCM800 on a clean setting & using a Line 6 DM4 for distortion. The Mesa has more than enough gain for the sounds I like. Horses for courses.

Guitarnut, my post was directed actually towards the original poster (OP) who is JGcable. He's been saving for a Mesa Mk4 so I was kinda needling him about considering another Marshall. Dude, did you not just have a 2210?
The whole Re: to have a response be directed to a specific poster is rather new, so, in light of that I didn't intentionally wish to cause confusion in my sarcasm and to whom it was directed.

Anyways..they have drugs in England? care to share?
I don't need any anyways,...

Ah - I see. Mine's a 2203. But as I've got the Mesa as well, confusion was easy - well, it was for me anyway, especially after a couple of beers! No drugs here, but I'll have a brew with you

I'll take one of those Carlsbro 50-60 tops or a Selmer Treble n Bass you got in abundant supply over there. Maybe a Patrick Eggle or two as well.
