After tons of research and thought I decided to go with a purple stripe Mesa Mark III. I had my heart set on a Mark IV and even though I have the cash for one I really don't want to spend that much on an amp. The Mark III purple stripe is the most Marshall sounding version and I am a sucker for the Marshall tone. Anyway, I negotiated with the seller to lower his Buy Now and when he did I clicked it. I got the amp, the custom diamond plate front plate, original plate and 2 footswitches for $565.00 shipped. The downside is the amp was modded. A boost jack replaces the Simulclass switch. The solo boost is preset internally and activated via footswitch. I will probably move that preset and make it an adjustable pot from the back of the amp or just return it to stock. The guy had no idea who did the mod which was scarey but for the price I paid I can surely take the chance. I will rip it apart and most likely the person who modded it left their name in there. Even Mark III's are selling from $750-$1100 and rising rapidly like all the Mark series amps so I figured I would take the chance. I did alot of research on the different versions of the Mark III. The purple stripe would technically be considered a Mark IIIB. It is the second version and the rhythm 2 channel was smoothed out and voiced the most like a Marshall. Channel 3 is similar to a Mark IIc. Channel 1 is very Fender like. It would be considered the smooth middle of the road Mark III. Many have complained about the shared EQ and this amps unability to get 3 great useable live settings but after talking to several people I have come to the conclusion that I will be able to tweak the purple stripe to work for me.It will look great on top of my Mesa 3/4 back cabinet. The best thing is that I still have enough money to fix up that Carvin DC127 and possibly buy another guitar! Here is the listing: Mesa Mark III
