• Need some help here

my friend was playing his amp and nothing was coming out, he checked behind and he pluged the amp at 8 ohms while his cab was at 4, he played for like 10 seconds or so. Could that have damaged his cab ?

Can we get some information on what kind of amp?

10 seconds don't sound like a lot, but it may have damaged the head. Too light a load on the amp.

        Tube amp I assume?

Could have blown a tranny but for such a sort period of time I sort of doubt it.

Tube amps need equal (or more) ohms for damage not to happen. If the head was set at 8 ohms and the cabinet less than that, it is possible that damage happened.

        Any blow fuses perhaps?

              Ouch!

My guess if there are no blown fuses that the OT has been fried!

Why would it be fried? It's not like he said it didn't work.

[/ QUOTE ] He said, "nothing was coming out" of the speaker cab. Could be as little as a bad cable.

he told me everything is fine ... he didn't smell anything burnt or weird sounds coming out of his amp so I guess it's all fine now

he probably didn't know which volume knob to use. my lead guitarist is like that sometimes.
