  • Mark IV noise

My mesa mark IV is used in a shred metal application and the gain is pretty high up all the time and when playing with the band, I really have to crank up the volume so it does get a bit whiny. Any reccomendations on a good noise gate? Also, can someone explain threshold and all the controls a noisegate would have on it.

    Re: Mark IV noise

threshold is the amount of signal that needs to go through gate in order for the signal to pass through, so if you have your threshold set really low or zero, most signals including feedback can get through whereas if you have it set high, you'll lose some dynamics in your playing but the feedback will be held off

dude just turn down the presence at loud volumes. this amp is ment to be run loud and high presence settings are ment for low volumes (i'd run the pres at 0 if it were mine).

Do what Reb said. If you are looking for a noise gate you should look at the MXR Smart Gate. Its awesome.

Yeah, MXR Smart Gate is a great pedal. The Boss Noise Suppressor is really good, too, but the Smart Gate works better, IMO.
