  • Vertical and/or oversized 2x12 cabs.

Any suggestions for a vertical or oversized 2x12 guitar cab? I currently own some old Peavey 212ST and 212M cabs, but want something with a bit more coverage. The Mesa Vertical Rectifier 2x12 is about the most expensive I'd care to go at around $400, and I'd really like to keep it closer to the $250 mark (or less used), as it'd probably be used with a small head like the Peavey Triumph 60 or something comparable. The ADA split 2x12s are too small, and the only other cabs I can think of are the Peavey verticals. The Engl equivalent is out of my price range.

are you talking $250-$400 loaded with speakers or just an empty cab for use with your own speakers? well they may be a bit out of your price range if you are looking for loaded cabs. but some of the best 2x12 cabs around IMO are made by earcandy http://earcandycabs.com/

I've got cool Jackson vertical cabs. These things sound great, but they are a little heavy. The speakers aren't logoed, but it's said that they're Eminence. They also made a 4x12 version with both red or black speakers.

http://www.avatarspeakers.com used to have a 2x12 vertical cabinent.

I can't say enough good things about these guys. They drop the speakers you want into the cab and ship them out quick. Look at his Dual V30 special.

Can't you just take a horizontal 2x12 and set it up on its side? A speaker should sound the same either way

I'd want to start out with a loaded cab, and swap speakers later if necessary. When I said oversized, I should have been more specific - I mean something like the Mesa cabs in terms of speaker placement. I have recorded with a G-Flex 2x12 and it sounded good, but in general I already know what a traditional horizontal 2x12 is going to offer me onstage. I'm looking to get the benefits of a half-stack but without the weight of a 4x12, ie. a speaker "up high" (slanted perhaps) for my own benefit in venues with insufficient stage monitors. I may be overestimating the effect a different speaker arrangement would have.

I certainly could set one of the Peavey cabs on its side for a similar effect, but to a degree I'm just looking to try something new.
