• Dammit! Need amp recommendations

Ok, so far I've had the following amps/rigs and for some reason I've sold or traded the:

1. Peavey 5150
2. Peavey Triple XXX (modded by Voodoo Amps)
3. Peavey 50/50 paired with a Rocktron Piranha
4. Peavey 50/50 paired with an ADA MP1
5. Line 6 Vetta I hd upgraded to the Vetta II software

I've also owned a TC Electronics G Major for effects.

Well, the thing is that no matter what I do, I get frustrated with the tone I get with these rigs. Right now I don't gig anymore and pretty much have become a bedroom player. I have owned expensive guitars (PRS, ESP, Jackson, Charvel, Ibanez, etc) and have used a lot of Dimarzio and SD pickups and still find myself looking for something else. I know that guitarists are always looking for the perfect tone, but the thing is that I've become so frustrated that sometimes I've lost the motivation for playing.

Is there an amp in the market that could give me enough gain, low end response, good string articulation and definition, that I could use for playing at home and ocassionally jamming with friends? They closest I got to what I was looking for was my modded Triple XXX. I was thinking about a Mesa Mark IV or maybe trying the new VHT Deliverance. The Peavey Penta and the JSX also sound attractive. I play 80's metal, hard rock and "shred type music" ala Satriani, Vai, etc. I only like to use delay and a touch of reverb. What could you recommend?

Boogie MK III? With a hotplate thrown in front of it and either Thiele Design cabs or a Genz Benz 2x12.

Sorry, I'm in love with the Mk III!
You took too much, man. Too much. Too much.

Oh yes! Funny you should mention it!

Here's a clip I listen to when I need to re-establish faith in all things Boogie!

http://www.musicv2.com/bank/ioeasp/9...k_III_wank.mp3
(not me playing!)

Godlike tone, imho.

Another celestial tone:

I'm creaming my pants here...

---------------------------

It has shared EQ, but when you hear the tone, that all melts away in my mind...

Don't listen to just clips, btw, seek one out and play. i'll buy a Red Stripe as soon as I get the cash. Clips don't do this thing justice at all!

The MK III, like an MK IV and most Boogie's is a tweakers amp, be prepared to sit and dial in a tone, but once you get there you'll be in seventh heaven.

--------------

I've been secretly hoping John (JGCable) will post clips of his Mk III Purple Stripe! (MOP tone anyone? )
You took too much, man. Too much. Too much.

Check out the Mesa F series (F-100, F-50 or F-30). I've got the F-30 combo and love it. I want to get a head version eventually, too.

i'm surprised that you didn't like the vetta.
i was on a mini tone quest myself and settled on the vetta.
it had the widest variety of tones, and sounded great at all volumes.
i agree that the touch/feel is not tube amp level, but overall i think it's awesome.

I don't know if I'm spoiled by owning tube amps for years, but I really miss the responsiveness of a tube amp. Maybe I haven't tweaked appropriately the Vetta, but haven't been able to get to a "sweet spot" with the amp. It is a shame because the variety of option the amp offers.

Old Marshall with a Hotplate and a boost pedal in front of it, like a Boss SD-1.

Chuck:

Do you think I could get good tone at bedroom levels out of a Marshall if I use a hot plate?

I have the Soldano Astroverb 1x12 and it's loud enough to play with other people but quiet enough to play at home...I have no way to record it but I like the sound.

you know for my home playing i find the best is a pod 2.0 going into my computer or stereo system. Tube amp and feels etc. alot of that is in peoples heads, the only thing i miss with my pod is feedback, but other then that i own mesea's, marshall's i have had soldano, i have a yamaha etc.. and i can tell you, for room playing the POD kills them all.

Siggy:

Maybe I'm not tweaking my Vetta enough. An alternative would be for my to download patches made by other people and play with those. I guess I'm a little bit tired of tweaking without getting any good results.

I have a Mesa Mark III Purple stripe and mine sounds pretty much exactly like the 1st and 2nd clip.

did you use the lead channel for your clips ? it sounds really good, very much like Disposable Heroes on MOP
