Re: Look what followed me home...

Hey Pete, is there anything different between the rack version and the head? Also, how much does it weigh? I know that the Single and Dual Rectifier heads are pretty light when comparing them to my Mark III or the 2210 that I used to own that weighed a ton.

The rack has more man hours in it - I've heard there were some component differences. It may just be because they had to wire these a little more carefully and differently due to how small they are too. Here's a porn shot:

Tone wise, it sounds beefier without as much mud, and more clarity on the top end. Mine does the King's X 'Dogman' tone to a T. My 'tonal preferences' from the rectos I've owned and played:

Rack
early dual channels (I had a first year 'reverse chassis)
dual channels
single recto version I
rectoverb
single recto version II
3 channel duals

Never messed with the triples much. I compared the rectoverb, and I and II single rectos together when Mars Music went out of business and bought the single recto.

All the above is my opinion, your mileage may vary.

Pete
oh, the weight is around 40#.

See, this is something people don't understand about amps (though, I'm sure Pete, and quite a few other techies here do).

A resistor, has a value that it falls in. Same with pots, and other things. There's usually a plus and minus value...meaning, up to, or less than, this that and the other.

That said, the "sweet" amps people talk about, are probably the ones that all the values fell into the "sweet" zone.

I like my triple, never got to try one of the racktifiers, they look so awesome though.

Some guys will beg or borrow a really good sounding marshall and measure the parts, and then build clones with parts that match those. Interesting idea, but kinda time consuming

Yup, i actually put her up for sale here but no one took the bite, all i wanted was about 1200 and it came with rec footswitch, but i think i might keep her for awhile now. But these 92 versions are the most sought after, usually they go for about 1500 on ebay. The guy i purchased it from had a really confusing auction and because of that i got it cheap, well the green might have done that too, but i am sure if i relisted on ebay i might be able to get $1300, but for now she will stay with me for a bit.
