Re: Gmajor plus Dual rectifier - good match?

I see no point in having an expensive Dual Rec if all you are going to do is use its power amp section as the back end for a PODxt setup. Just get a Mesa rack power amp, and you'll be good to go if that's what you are looking for. I think the G-Major would be a much better option, which would allow you to really use the Dual Rec.

I agree. The POD XT, the Boss GT6/8 all sound the best if you use a stereo power amp and run them through a stereo cabinet. That is why Fritz is enjoying his GT8/Mackie rig currently. Its all about the stereo spread and the cleanliness of the power section. I use a stereo Carvin T-100 poweramp and a Boss GT-6 through a stereo cabinet. My sound is really outstanding. I shit you not.

My XT, will be reserved for...into computer use for now. THen when a sweet deal comes up on a POD, that I can buy, and sell this, and still have change left, I'll use it for recording.

When you say "phasing issues" running the FX loop, what do you mean?

There is a few millisecond delay between the amp and the output from the XT - it's like running a phaser to zero sweep and varying the delay time slightly. You get a 'wooosh' kinda sound... it sucks all the life out of the tone. It's hard to describe but once you hear it you'll know what I mean.

I'll have to try that when I get better (terrible sick right now, check the computer to run a new tv show I dled), I just don't feel like fucking with all of those cables right now, just to reproduce a piece of shit sound.

Is this common with boogies? Dare I say it, but is my Boogie a piece of shit in the FX loop?

Re: Gmajor plus Dual rectifier - good match?

I think that Twisteramp is saying that the XT was the source of the problem, not his amp. Basically, if there's a phase issue with the XT like he says, that would be true through any amp.

Re: Gmajor plus Dual rectifier - good match?

Yeah, I put a freakin' stompbox in the loop and it didn't affect the tone bypassed like the XT did. I love Line6 gear - but that XT is bunk for effects only, at least in the fx loop of my amp. Trust me, if it worked I'd be using it - I have no desire to buy another fx processor and deal with the extra cabling.

I'm not sure that is exactly what is meant. I thought that as long as you patch back into the FX loop, you're still using the amp's power section...

Are you sure you have the Pod set up right? I think I undertand the sound that you're describing, and it sounds like maybe an effect isn't in line how it should be. Is it possible to try it on another amp to see if it still does it?

It also sounds like maybe the effects aren't chained correctly.

I wish I knew more about the Pod! I've never even seen one!

                  Possible to post a soundclip?

Re: Gmajor plus Dual rectifier - good match?

I have a Dual Rec half stack and I've used the G-Major, Boss Pedals and Lexicon rack gear. Now I'm using the Pod XT Live. There are some things about the G-Major and the Lexicon that I liked but some I really hated. Someone mentioned that using the dual rec for just the power amp is a waste. In a sense that is true. But the thing I like is I can have a Mesa Boogie, Bogner, Marshall or Soldano with the tap of my foot. I think the effects are average at best but some people think they are great. I just like the versitility of having that amp models without spending huge dollars. And the clean sound from the XTL is great compared to the clean you get from the dual rec!!

How would I go about using the channel switching feature on a Mark IV. What on the g-major would i connect to on the mesa? Anyone ever use this combo?

Re: Gmajor plus Dual rectifier - good match?

The G-major has a steroe out that you can connect with a stereo cable to a foot switch jack. There are two relays in the G-major. One for the tip to ground and one for the ring to ground. I'm not sure about the Mark III's footswitch capability. I use it with my single rectifier. Relay 1 switches channels and relay 2 switches to solo boost.

                        Hope this helps.

I bought a G-Major a few years back, thing is the best effect source I've ever used. Bought an XT-Live last Feb., and I love that as well. Since I've got 3 heads and 2 cabs, I use one half stack with the G-Major and the other with the XT-Live through the loop. Too much damn fun...

Just bumping this thread to say that I found a Gmajor for a good price and reading this thread inspired me to snag it. Thanks!

YOu will be very happy with it. I've been thinking about going with a modeling setup for my live rig, but the Gmajor is the only thing keeping me from taking the dive. I love mine!
