That is a stupid good price for that head - I've seen them go for over $800 on ebay. Looks to be in fantastic shape too. You may need an overdrive pedal to put in front of it - they had a lot of gain for the day, but compared to a high gain amp nowadays... it's more like the 2nd channel of a 3 channel amp if that much.

That's a great price man, go for it. If you have an overdrive like a Boss SD-1, or a Tube screamer, you'll want to take them along with you. JCM 800's have a decent amount of gain, but for 80's type tunes, you're going to want an overdrive pedal.

Boy that makes me feel good.
I have a SD-1,MT-2,old MXR Dis+ and GE-7.
Does the EL-34's or 6551'sound better.
He couldn't remember off the top of his head what power tubes it has.
Also, Anything I should look for on the inside.
Should I bring it to an amp tech for a check-up if I get it?
Does this amp come with an effects loop?

By the picture it looks like EL34's, as to the price, it is not a bad price, not killer, but fair. Normaly those sell between $650 and $750, the Veritical inputs get top dollar though, anywhere between $700 and $900.

Personaly i would try to talk him down to $600!

If I see no issues with it I can live with $650.
I just sold my Mesa Nomad 55 for $650.

I disagree, They almost never sell for less than 700.00, and usually in the 750-800 range.

Those are EL34's in that amp, and they don't have an effects loop. The tubes could be Teslas(Pre JJ, and they sound pretty damn good IMHO) Chinese, or Even Siemens. If they're Chinese, you're going to want to replace them fairly soon. Current chinese tubes sound good, but the ones they were using in 1988 aren't very good.

great amps...2203/2204 and and SD1 is as awesome force [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img] I have seen them go for less and I ve seen them go for more. The bottom line is the market fluctuates...its a great amp and 50-100 bucks difference shouldn't matter much...its still worth it [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

I also would look for an earlier mnodel but the truth be known that the differences between the vertical and horizontal 2204's isnt as great as it is with the 2203's..IMHO [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

all you need to know is that it takes a huge and ridiculus amount of volume to have good distortion but it's worth it

25w Celestions in the 74'1960a and it does sound amazing. It still has the gold piping across the top, also seen alot of clubs and bars across the USA. I try not to bring it out much these days. I use a 82' 1960a with the 35w speakers, that sounds amazing as well. Any head I plug into these cabinets sounds great.

If I were you I would go with the verticle jack model. The ebay auction that Shawn Lutz posted is the one to buy. I have 3 Marshall 2 jcm 800 and 1 jmp. They are all verticle input. I think they sound better and are better quality. the verticle input one in the ebay auction is also a great price. JMO

This thing is cherry.
but.. like we all know it's loud.
so, I want to get a THD Hotplate.
The amp can switch between 4-8-or-16 ohms.
My G-Flex 2x12 cab has a mono 4 ohms input.
Should I get the 4 ohm Hotplate then? [img]/images/graemlins/scratchhead.gif[/img]
