I thought the 2101 and Artist were 'higher end'? The GSP 21 came in 3 flavors, the GSP21, Pro and Legend. I though the Artist, 2101 and others were 2U rack versions.
The GSP21 series were all 1U. I had a pro for many years and a few years back picked up the legend. The differences between the two were minor.
The 2101 is awesome.
I have one and love it. (Bought it back in the day new, it was expensive, but it sounded so killer. Still prefer it to many of the newer units.
It is a tube-powered preamp.
The 2101 Artist had an additional S-Disc processor (more power) and colored faceplates.
The GSP21 is the predecessor of the 2101. The upgrade to the GSP21 was the GSP 21 Legend. (I think the legend included artist presets)
All of this is information I believe to be correct, but I could easily be wrong.
GSP21 then GSP21 Pro then GSP21 Legend then Legend II then 2101 then 2112 then 2120 Artist. Best would be 2120 Artist. As far as I know up until the 2101 they're mostly the same except more effects and the 2101 added tube(s) in the preamp like the GFX-1.
