  • Got my AOR head, but... wtf?

Can't really coax much out of it yet, but I give it some time, suggested settings or tips would be great. Also, the head looks like crap. It's covered in carpet, which I've never seen on an AOR, the woodwork looks like crap, there are gaps. To my untrained eye, it looks like someone put the guts of a AOR head into a homemade enclosure. If someone could verify that, I would appreciate it so I could maybe get some money back from the seller (ebay). Anyway, here are the pix.

I can't tell you if it's original or not, but I will say it's ugly

The cabinet proportions look about right from my memory, but that covering doesn't look like any I've seen before - maybe it was recovered and the laney logo moved to the left?

That's disgusting. Even the carpet on the old Carvin X100s is better...

            That output transformer isn't original.

Yeah, it looks like something off a tube powered home stereo.

That looks suspiciously like a Randall head cab.

The woodwork looks like my AOR. Laney didn't do really impressive woodwork. But the carpet cover? That definitely reminds of an the Fender stuff. I second the thoughts on the output transformer.

THe front panel of your amp has gaps where you can see clear through the entire amp? I could make a better enclosure than this.
Here's the auction, although I think the pix are gone. It was just a fron picture and a back picture, sorta fuzzy and about 2in x 2 in. The seller had pretty impeccable feedback, so I just did BIN pretty much. I don't think he knows much about guitar from dealing with him.

Well...you didn't do any homework, did you?

I'm sorry, I would really like to be supportive and suggest you try to return the amp, but...you bought what you bought. Those pics in the auction tell the whole story to me. The seller isn't to blame for any wrong doing here.

Look at the bright side: You can have a nice enclosure made for it, and possibly have it hot-rodded, and t will be cool as all get out.

If YOU were selling an amp that possibly had some problems, unorignial stuff, do you mention it in the auction? Or try to cover it up. The pix in the auction look fine. I talked to him by email about it being a carpeted head when I'd never seen an AOR cab being carpeted before, but he said it was Tolex. Also said he didn't have any more pics. If you're saying I deserve the bastard of a Laney I have now because I "didn't do any homework", you're very, very wrong.

OK. Somebody needs to pay for your mistake, right?

Dude, you said yourself the guy didn't seem to know much about gear, so how would he know the transformer had been switched? He said it's coverd in tolex...does that look like tolex to you? There's nothing wrong with those pics. I can see the transformer and the overall funkiness of the cabinet just fine. I can easily see that it ain't a Laney cab.
