Re: bbe sonic maximizer?

shit...just guitar cables...not speaker cables..

just go from your in and out from one side of your BBE unit...into the return and send into your 5150 loop..

that's it..it should work like a charm..if not...ya did "somethin" wrong"..

Input to send...Output to return...that's it...two instrument cables...done.

come back and tell us what's up...don't hook it up any other way...the BBE must go into your 5150 Loop.

that BBE is a two channel unit..just use ONE channel's Input and Output side...either one doesn't mater..but only one side or the other..

if you have two 5150s..then you could run both channels...

Yeah, sounds to me that you're plugging it in incorrectly EVHwannabe. Double check everything too. Keep the BBE set with all the dials at noon for testing purposes. Have you run anything in the effects loop before? One of your jacks might need to be tightened or cleaned.

My Marshall 1960A cab must be blessed by John Marshall or Hartley Peavey or something because it never flubs out when EQ'd properly. The only way I can get it to flub out is if I crank the resonance to 9 or higher and bump the low end to 10, but that's like dialing the amp with the gain on 10, you never need to do that.

I have a 70s 25 watt greenback cab, that is signed by Jim Marshall twice! AND IT STILL FLUBS under volume! Bahhhh.... Sure sounds nice at low volume tho...

Re: bbe sonic maximizer?

Thanks for everyone's help. I do have it configured correctly - send to input, and output to return. It appears to be the chord I was using. When I replaced the little 10" patch chord going from send to input with a regular George L, it worked; plugged the 10" in again, and it once again gave me sound, but the "lead post" master volume was completely disabled. I don't completely understand it, but that's what it does.

bad connection..has to be...doesn't make sense...that BBE doesn't change the operation of that amp ..any amp...just ether in or out...that's all..

you'll get it...sounds like you hooked it right...but try different cables just to make sure.."Guitar" cables...I have two two footers just long enough to reach it..

get back to us...

Re: bbe sonic maximizer?

5150 head...NEEDS...5150 cab to sound it's best..

yeah you can "think" it sounds Good or OK or awesome...until you see the difference...and there is a HUGE difference....John and I saw it for ourselves..

we always just bought the 5150 heads and always used "celestions" well because we like celestions...celestions are cool!!!..

Then I bought a 5150 Half stack...because it was MINT and REALLY cheap...I couldn't believe the difference..you can dime the gain on them a lot more and they remained focused.... w / celstions ..we couldn't get the gain past 5 - 5.5 before it flubbed out...yeah you can use external EQ and what not (which we did) to extract "flub"..and all that...but your extracting a lot more...the tone of the amp for one..

screw Eq's ..to me less is more sometimes ..the only thing that head needs is a matching cab and a BBE in the loop...dazzit!

take our word for it...we have seen the top of the mountains....and it is good..

Hey Bill, what Celestions did you try it with? I'll bet it would sound great through my Peavey cab with G12K85s.

Re: bbe sonic maximizer?

It just May Zeegs..

I had a Peavey cab loaded with either those or 80's..I think they were 80's..I remember pulling the back off to check..

but it was THE best celestions I ever owned..wish I still had it..

I ran that Peavey cab with a 2210 Marshall...NICE!

All I know is I always ran all my 5150 heads with 1960b cabs w / celes 75s..until I had a chance to buy a "5150 "half stack"..

Damn...what a difference...I remember I could never get the gain even close to six without the farting and flubbin..John and I both..

with the 5150 cab..I had that gain to 7 or so ..a little more than really needed...and ZERO flub ...so I always had the gain at 6.5 ..a little closer to 7 and that's a HUGE difference in gain..from 5 - 5.5 on a 5150..

as anyone with a 5150 would know..

Re: bbe sonic maximizer?

So...in sound terms... what does it? I'm too lazy to research and last time I tried I couldn't find a good enough description.
Hell if it kills noise, adds a little bass and makes the sound less mushy, I'd be all over it.

pott..it won't kill noise...but yeah...the other two things it does with a 5150!!

only a 422 or 422a

Isn't the 5150 a little bass heavy?
My Laney AOR is a little bass-light, and if I put it all the way up it gets fuzzy. I'm thinking the BBE could solve that, as well as making the sound a little mushy for high gain stuff.
