  • rack tuner vs. boss tu-2

is the tu2 pedal any worse than a rack tuner? atm i'm using a 2 space rack (samson vhf wireless - which i don't use anymore as it drops out occasionally - as well as a sabine rt1600 tuner), but well, as i said, i don't really want to use the wireless anymore (i LOVE wireless, but vhf doesn't seem to do it for me, and we already have 3 other uhf wireless systems when playing live, and getting them balanced is a bitch - thats why i'm going to return my akg wms40), and i figured if i bought a tuner pedal i wouldn't need to carry the rack around any more.

so, if nobody has some horror stories about the tu2, i'm likely going to do this.
also, if there's a better pedal in this pricerange (around 60 euro used) please tell me.

    thanks

The rack tuner ( I don't know how well sabines are) will probably be more accurate.

Now, I've got a Korg DTR2, and a Boss TU2. They are both accurate, and when I'm in tune on one, I'm in tune on the other. someone will say it sucks, but I think the TU2 is awesome. Doesn't color your tone, and has a mute on it if you choose.

Go with the Peterson Strobostomp and set it to true bypass mode. I went with it so that I wouldn't need to add to either of my racks and so that I could use it with any and all of my setups (combo and head) plus I just got a Buzz Feiton tuning guitar and it has the setting for that too. First time I've actually been comfortable to not retune a guitar a little by ear too.

I have a DTR 2 as well. The main difference is that a rack tuner will have more visible increments of pitch available because of the larger face. Therefore, tuning will be slightly more accurate. I have 9 UHF wireless systems in my band with no problems. The key is to get units that have selectable frequencies (preferably 200 or more). Once you set them up you will not have any cross talk between units. I have performed in New York City hundreds of times with no problems. The only time I ever had a problem was when we played on the top floor of the World Trade Center right under the giant radio antennae.

my experience iwth the TU-2 is that it can only do Standard E tuning. i could be totally wrong though, but ive used 2 different ones from my friends and they display numbers instead of notes?

Huh? I've never seen numbers on my TU-2. It works fine for all my guitars... E, Eb, D, even the low B on my 7-string. There is also a strobe mode on it, which I don't think I've ever tried. I've also got a Korg DTR-1000 rack tuner in my living room rig, but I hardly ever use it any more.

A bonus for the TU2 is you can use it without turning around to look at your rack

+1 My vote is for the Tu-2. I like having my tuner in front of me.

I really don't think you can go wrong with the Boss TU-2, or with most tuner pedals for that matter. I have a $15 Rocktek knock-off of the TU-2 that is GREAT! Very accurate, shows up great on a dark stage, and does not cause any signal/tone loss. The only "issue" is that it's plastic, not metal like the Boss.
