• I love my amp, need good FX unit.

I'm not looking for a unit with all of the amp modeling BS and whatnot, but just a good FX unit. I was thinking the Boss ME50, but I've never tried one and I'm not about to risk $300 and two weeks of shipping back and forth from Musician's Friend to see if it sounds good. Also, I've heard mixed reviews. Maybe if the reviews were more solid I'd take the chance.

What would you recommend? Really all I need is a good chorus sound, flexible reverb (you know, with more controls than "more or less"), delay, and wah. Anything else other than those is cool, but I could get by without. If you think the best FX unit is a unit that has modeling as well, please recommend it anyway. I don't really need the modeling, but maybe it'll come in handy someday, like recording or some shit.

Thanks for any insight.

Modeling is basically EQ trickery, so anything with a detailed graphic EQ or a parametric EQ that lets you specify each frequency will generally give you the same results as a modeler, with the notable exception being that you'll have to program those yourself.

That is, of course, assuming you want a rack-mounted FX unit. If so, the Digitech TSR models (12 and 24) are definitely suitable, but the time you spend programming them (let alone figuring out HOW to program them effectively) is time you could spend on less time-consuming things like watching a Twinkie decompose
It's not rocket science, but only because it's not monopolized by NASA

If you want good sounds with less work, go for a Yamaha SPX-90. Yamaha stuff can beautify your tone just being plugged into it, without even adjusting stuff (had an old Yamaha rack delay for a while and it made my BOSS pedals and "Baby" Gorilla amp sound killer )

What amp do you have, does it have an effects loop?

TC Electronics G-major is pretty damn good...

+600 G-Major. Can do your channel switching as well. Assuming you have a good loop of course on your amp, and preferably serial.

How 'bout the Visual Sound H2O Liquid Chorus & Echo? $165, in a footswitch format.

You'll need a separate Wah, but you'd need that with a G-Major, too (along with a footswitch - and a rack if you don't have one already).

Buy a GMajor or an old Rocktron Intellifex, and a separate wah pedal.
