use channel 3, keep the gain around 12 o clock, use an external noise gate, DO NOT SCOOP YOUR MIDS...the PB is voiced with the mids scooped as it is.
[/ QUOTE ]thanks for the advice on the mids and channel selection.I got a decimator rack from Derek about 3 weeks ago that thing kicks ass.what are you using for a footswitch?

The powerball has a noise gate built in . I'd use channel 4 but I forgot how I had it set up. Too many knobs for me.
[/ QUOTE ]I asked Derek the built in noisegate. He said the decimator is way better than Engl gate.other wise I was going to sell the Decimator

Re: OK who has an Engl Powerball
One of the coolest things about Derek is he's a straight shooter - if he tells you something about a product he sells, it's the truth. I think he's checked out a lot of gear that he was thinking about carrying but didn't like it much - so he doesn't carry it.

Re: OK who has an Engl Powerball
I've only had mine for a short period of time... I'd use channel 3 - gain at 11 or 12 o'clock, bass at 1 o'clock, middle at 11 o'clock, treble at 11 o'clock, presence at 12 o'clock and depth punch at 3 o'clock. Using the focused mid-range.
For my style (power metal) I think I like the open mid-range more than the focused, but I'm still experimenting.
It's a nice amp, enjoy!...that the play is the tragedy, "Man"

Re: OK who has an Engl Powerball
I'd recommend channel 3 for rhythm, its tighter than ch4.
Other than that I can't really recommend anything, since I only played the Powerball in the store a few times.
But play around with the open/focused, to see what you like better.

Re: OK who has an Engl Powerball
Good choice for metal!!! I play a Powerball while the other guitar player in our band play a Voodoo modded DSL. While the Voodoo sounds much better than the stock DSL it does not stack up to the Powerball for metal tones. One good thing with the Powerball is that it is hard to get a bad sound out of it. Just start with all the knobs at 12 o'clock and tweek away.

[/ QUOTE ]yeah it took me a while to decide on getting rid the Voodoo'd Marshall the thing crunched like a bastage but I could not get the low end I wanted always just to little or a tad to much but it was still way better than the dsl before the MOD.If I was tuned to E or D I would have kept it.I got a nice Megadeth,Death, and Napalm type tones with it and all notes were clear as hell.Oh well it was time to move on and leave the British Invation behind for something new.I almost went with a Framus Cobra.I got to try one at a dealer about 30 min from the house. It sounded awsome but I didn't want to spend $2400 on a new head.I sold my Marshall to a friend for $1000 so the PB will only cost me just over $800
