Re: peavey jsx reviews?

Sounds like Krank is handing out alot of free amps and endorsement deals. All the bands mentioned have good sound but most of them don't have Mesa, Marshall, VHT, Engl and Bogner endorsements either. If my band was at the level that they were I would take a full Krank endorsement in a second. Most of us would. Touring is murder on your gear. I know that from touring in the 80's. I am not saying that Krank is good or bad, I am just saying I can understand all of those bands using Krank because they are getting them for free.

Yep, agreed. If I was somehow able to coax a good sound out of a Krank, I'd rather beat the hell out of their equipment for an eight month tour than my old Marshall...maybe.

Re: peavey jsx reviews?

I played a JSX last week. The clean was nice, I liked it better than the XXX. The Crunch channel doesn't have as much gain as the XXX. Even maxed out, it wasn't a high gain channel. The Ultra channel had a ton of gain like the XXX but was less buzzy and fizzy. The Fat switches didn't seem to do a whole lot. The presence and resonance controls make a big difference. The EQ offers a lot of variety.

I prefer the XXX for it's versatility and the damping switches. If I was just playing hard rock, not metal, the JSX would work for me.

one reason you find more bands touring with JSXs is reliability, Say what you want about Peavey amps, most of them have proven to be pretty tough, While the custom Marshall may be amp of choice theese things can take a beating on the road, the JSX is a fairly versitile amp and would seem like a good choice for touring.

Re: peavey jsx reviews?

Just got mine today... quicky review more detailed one to follow, along with clips:

FX loop is great. Has send/return level, works well with my Pod XT Live. Also, you can set the send/return up high and even without a cable in the loop, you can footswitch it as a boost for all three channels. VERY cool feature.

Clean channel is great - its... clean. Not sterile clean, but nice. Better than the soldano HR50plus XL I had, not as good as the Egnater TOL 100 I had either... but in the middle. A dab of chorus and you're fine.

Crunch is between single and two channel JCM800 territory. Still dialling it in, at first had an obnoxious high end 'trash' in it, but goosing the bass and mids a tiny bit and cutting the treble and raising the presence fixed it. Haven't even started playing with tubes yet.

Ultra is PLENTY of gain - gobs of sustain at bedroom levels, and plenty of compression without losing all touch sensitivity. Has same harshness the crunch channel had, dialled it out.

Still tweaking it, and it has EH6L6s right now. I have a set of JJ6L6s and JJEL34Ls to play with too, and the bias control is on the OUTSIDE of the chassis, so I can tweak that too... and preamp tube selection, etc.

Only thing I really don't like so far is that it is heavy as HELL. package was reported by UPS as 76 pounds. *!*

Everything Pete just said has been true of my XXX, too.

I like 6L6s, so I've found the gain solution that works for me by putting a 12AT7 in V2. More headroom, less harsh, still mean as hell.

Just my cent.

Re: peavey jsx reviews?

I tried one of the new combos a while back.
At low volume all 3 channels sounded killer.
The more you turned it up, the worse channels 2 & 3
sounded.
Up loud it sounded like a hollow box.
the clean channel was beautiful at all volumes.
I hope it's just the combo open backed speakers.
The head has tons of potential to be a jack of all sounds, very versatile, but I was really disappointed
If this is our perdition, will you walk with me?

Open back speakers SUCK for loud volume IMHO... I'll find out how it sounds at the gig on saturday. We're doing a fill in at a biker rally.

All these Krank amp users you guys are listing are bands that meake me laugh or puke, depending on my mood when I hear them, and largely ignore
