Re: JSX gig review

No, I often use a VERY clean distortion like VaHalen I. Not the Fuzzy NuMteal distortions. Many different types of that stuff, haha...

And no, the MESA trouble I have is fuzzy, spongey, looseness, not sizzle. I've heard plenty of great recordings of MESA stuff, I just can't for the life of me get it myself.

you guys are trying to sell me on an old WHORE that I used bang the hell out of and kicked to the curb 15 years ago..and every time I hear or play one..my opinion never changes..

either you like em ..or you don't..

      Rectos???!!!..yeah I fucked them..and threw it away..because I think they "suck"!

But if they work for you awesome..some here like DSLs..so there ya go..

Loomis played a recto...MutherFer..sounded great with it..but he always sounded great with anything..from Tri axis to POD to Recto...and now what Krank..or XXX..whatver...sounds like Loomis..all of them..no difference!

Adding mids really focus the Rectos. Strangely enough, the best tone from the amp alone, (I use a boost in front of mine) is the setting Dreamland Rebel suggested... dimed mids and bass, no presence or treble, and LOTS of volume in the modern mode. Awesome punchy, articulate, crushing tone. You would think it would sound horrible set like that, but it doesn't. Rectos are very weird amps.

            [/ QUOTE ]

glad to see it worked for ya! too many people are afraid to try those settings cause it seems too strange to turn off your treb and pres. they think "no treb and pres... thats not metal!" but in all reality. the 3rd channel has so much treb and pres naturally that cutting it and boosting the volume makes up the difference.

gives you that tightness and tames the sizzle.
but look out, that sucker is loud!

btw i'm still looking for an answer to the jsx fx return question i asked earlier ???

                      yes...to you silly motherfuggers..

like that dumbfuck that married my old used up throw away whore ...

then told me how "awesome" she was ...then beats her ass repeatedly and goes to jail several times..oh that's "awesome"...good...I love it..ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh fuggum!

Rectos can suck my balls...my balls are less fuzzy than a recto...well because I shave them...nice and smooth...just like the gobs of gain that I prefer...SMOOOOOOOOOOOTH!

I prefer a pretty saturated distortion..but "musical" warm , and smooth...just like my balls.

                        Re: JSX gig review

It comes down to the old adage, "to each his own".

The way my tone comes out with my TripleRec, the distortion is so "clear" and articulate that I have to be VERY accurate in my playing, as every nuance, pick mis-strike, and any other mistake (and there's a lot of them ) I make come through perfectly. This is both doing metal in Division and using it in my cover band.

However, back to the topic - I've been curious about the JSX for said cover band. Sounds like it's worth checking out...
Division - American Metal that doesn't suck. Much. Even on Facebook.

Well Michael I must say this..If you are using a Rectop to record your last cd ..It sounds fine..you make it work!!

Whe I play fire up ANY recto..and attempy to play my ear hear "fuzz" and it just doesn't feel right..no matter how long I played with it..

when I hear some others play and use them they sound just fine..I don't hear fuzz..they sound OK..

Now I would take a Recto over a DSL anyday..

But I heard folks play DSL and get by too..

I can't play a DSL to save my life..nothing I play...comes out right or sounds goods..

                          Yep..to each their own..

Jonh don't like my JMP-1..but he can play the hell out of it when he's over..so if he REALLY needed to..he can grab this and go..and do whatever he needed to..it's not his CAE/VHT...but it'll do in a pinch..

I love the JMP-1..very smooth distortion , quick attack , tight , and very edgy..awesome lead tones..I use the Marshall to record my solos..and the Uber for the rythm.

                            Re: JSX gig review

Hey, we A/B'd a Vetta halfstack and a Mesa Triple Rectifier halfstack. Same cabinet on both. We demo'd them LOUD. REALLY LOUD. The Vetta smoked the Triple Rectifier in every respect except for looks. We dialed in a Dual Rectifier setting on the Vetta 2 and it killed the real one sitting right next to it. We then layered an Ubershall on top of it. The Triple Rectifier sounded like a a SS Crate amp compared to it. We then tried an Ubershall/Herbert mix. I will tell you with a fair amount of experience... the Ubershall/Herbert combination is the heaviest most crushing guitar tone I have ever heard. I am surprised the speakers in the oversized Mesa cabinets didn't explode.
What does this have to do with the topic?? Well, I have never heard a real Herbert or an Ubershall live but I can just imagine what they sound like. No Rectifier could hang with that sonic boom. No wonder they are $4000.00+ amps.

Well John and I just carried my Uber half stack upstairs today and fired it up..it is an amazing TIGHT as hell flame thrower , more brutal than anything I ever had in my face..with gobs of very smooth gain..sounds great!

and yes I do Dime the gain..all the way up..and it is superglued there..if I back it off just a hair..I lose something cool immediately...so for me it needs to be dimed..full tilt...PERIOD!

                              and it sounds perfect!

I used to run my JSX on an old JCM 800 series 1960B, it sounded thin to my ears.

But I replaced it with a Peavey XXX cabinet, and I must say, the sound is smoother, less buzzy and fizzy, thicker, and the bottom end isn't so boomy and loose, its tighter and controllable.

You can play "Scarified" and actually hear the notes!

                                [/ QUOTE ]

That is because more then likley that cabinet has either classic leads or celestion 75's which are a naturall mid scooped speakers and this would take the mid chunck out. These are one of my least favorite speakers but some people love them (horns) If you are looking for super highs and some lows with no mid's then these are the perfect speakers. Vintage 30's add alot of midrange and that is why mesa teams them up with there mid scooped rect heads, if you want alot of mids with rounded highs and lows go for the greenbacks which are a great rock speaker.

                                [/ QUOTE ]

They did indeed have the G12T-75's, and I know all too well that the midrange is missing and the treble is piercing.

Vintage 30's are nice, fat midrange, makes most any amp sound good, but they are not the clearest speakers.

Greenbacks are amazing, my favorite celestion. Very clear, punchy, strong but balanced midrange and treble. Low end is a bit smaller than the rest, but thats ok, I use standard tuning so I dont have to stretch them too much. My next cab is probably going to be a nice old Carvin Legacy cab with the Greenback speakers (before they switched to V30s) because Carvin cabs (like Peavey cabs) are constructed very well. My Marshall's construction quality wasn't too impressive.

The XXX speakers, to my ears, seem like a blend between the Vintage 30 (fatness) with the Greenback's clarity and punch. They sound good on some amps (JSX/XXX) but may not sound great for others. I dont really care about the other amps, because I bought it for my JSX.

And to whoever talked about "Clean" distortion, I know precisely what you mean. I bought my JSX for its clarity, and my Laney AOR because it has a very "clean" distortion, which is very hard to explain (and for some, hard to grasp the concept, its something you understand once you hear it). It sounds clean and smooth, but its overdriven with alot of harmonic sustain. Very strange, Very unique, thats why I liked it. I think Greenbacks will work nice with it...
