Can't do that with most high gain amps. Such as a 5150 , the most you can push thei gain is around 6 to almost 7 without mushing up with way too much saturation.

OK StarRider...I listened to the clips. I've been biting my tongue regarding your earlier posts on $500 SS amps hanging with their more expensive counterparts, but I feel I can talk now.

Your playing was fine and I thought your lead tone worked for those tunes. I didn't dig the rhythm tone though. To my ears it screamed SS. It had a somewhat harsh raspiness to the high end and really lacked a low-mid thrust...both issues that are typically "cured" through the use of a good tube amp. I'm sure your tone would cut it for the majority of the crowd at a gig, but your throwing it out there on this forum for some seasoned vets so you have to expect some critical analyzation.

I'd love to hear you cut loose through a quality tube amp...you've got the chops, now get the fullness you need. [img]/images/graemlins/toast.gif[/img]

Like I said this was not produced at all just 2 mics
2 cabinets
no control over the recording
I was busy trying to sing the songs
I just turning on the amps
Sound man said, sounds good to me, so we went with it
These recordings where made for as you correctly stated
"Live" gigs in med to small clubs
Not for CD quality
When I used to tour, I used JCM 800 amp heads
But small clubs and covers? Don't need anything more
BTW: I hear more of the modeling of the Metal Master myself
And I posted this so the guys who can't afford the 2,000.00+
amps can hear that cheaper amps are ok for Live Metal
Not the Best by any stretch, just another cheaper way

I'm not digging it either but I will be a little more harsh. That sounds exactly like a cheap SS amp and a Metal Master pedal. Processed, thin, fuzzy and buzzy. It sounds transistorized. I can actually picture the diodes in my head. My son uses a Metal Zone through a $99.00 Crate SS amp and he gets pretty much the EXACT same tone as you do.
If that is your arguement for using cheap gear... it ain't cutting it bro. Your playing is good though and I appreciate you posting the clips. If your rig works for you... cool but don't preach to us about how your ears can't tell the difference between a $2K amp and a $500.00 amp. Not with the clips you just posted. Jeez...
I had sound like that in 1979 with my MXR Distortion + plugged into my home stereo.
You know what I play through. In case you don't.. I listed it below. Expensive?? Yep. And worth every penny of it. You get what you pay for when it comes to guitar amps.

for what I use it for small gigs in dives I wouldn't spend 2,000+
If I was recording for a CD and going on tour, thats a different story, but the post says for "live" not studio produced

And be real this is a cheap cover band
These demo songs have gotten us many gigs
And that was the point
Drunks listening in a bar could care less what my guitar sounds like
They just wanna hear their fav songs
Pig Noise or Bogner they dont care
Thats the reason I use a cheaper amp when we play in Dives
This is not my "to die for tone"
and I'll say again Classic Rock not Nu-Metal

You were really talking some jive in your earlier posts about how good your SS/stomp box rig sounds and how those "expensive amps" aren't worth the money and how you can't hear the difference. Our sounds sucked so bad the tour manager from Loudness wanted to by our Marshalls
And Criss from Savatage said he was embaressed when we did our sound check.
He wanted me to just use a 1/2 stack, like him. Then went out and got more Marshalls after we opened for them.
He dug our sound too.

When needed I'll use what it takes
But for playing live in bars with a cover band?
