A Korean Sodano 60 .. from my recollection ..Mine had grey tolex and chicken head knobs with a white face plate..the 12ax7s were right at the front of the chasis..you could pratically heat up a pop tart while you jammed..it came with two sovtek 6l6s and was a 60wt head it has a pretty blue standby light and it was very creamy sound..a bit like Gary Moore I thought..bought I usd to dial in a decent "Unchained" tone..they were assemble in Korea I believe and came out right before Soldano made the American Hot Rod 50..
that's what I remebered!
Then I traded that for a Mesa MtkIII...which I traded for a Charvel 750XL silverflake archtop..
Then I got the first series recto ..tweaked that for a year and traded it off for a Soldano HR 100...which was cool..but I like the tone of the Korean 60 better..
Then I just stuck to 5150s and 2210s..
Until I got my Marshal rack in '96
well you asked..
Pete will probably know more about that amp than I do..I was pretty decent though...midrangy..but decent.

I dunno...I didn't think it was all that, really.
Yeah, these amps are great...if you can play loud as hell!

With the Power Dampening on these now there's no need to worry about killing your neighbors small animals
Most of the time I can get away with running it without the Power Dampening on - just the Hot Plate at -12db.
I won't get all preachy on you - but these amps truly fall under the "you gotta play one / be in the same room with one" category....just sick tones

All you've got to do is get in your car and take a drive out to Apple Valley....Vic will let you run through all of them. But bring a guitar with you as he's a lefty. You won't be dissapointed.
Yup, I sure was, and I don't think it was all that.
Here's the deal: I don't play "Unchained" all night long. So when I listen to an amp clip (and believe me, I've listened to all the clips on the Mohave site), I envision what the amo will sound like with my music and in my hands. The guy playing the amp brought out the best in the amp, and it sounds great. If you're playing "Unchained" all night long.
But I don't play guitar like that, and for what I demand out of an amp, these non-master volume amps don't cut it. I need a master volume. I need more preamp gain. And 90% of you guys do, too.
Steve, there's one important fact you're forgetting: I've been down the "non-master, attenuator out back, boost up front, gotta turn it up" road long ago. I've been doing this for a damn long time. I've owned the Marshall Plexi's and know how to make them work. It's the same way to play a Mohave, and while I don't doubt it sounds good, it's not what "I" need. I don't need to play the amp. I can listen to the clips and figure that out. AND I just saved myself 2 grand!
I thought that the clips posted were just the guitar plugged into the amp except for a little effect for Unchained. I would like to hear more clips of those exact amps with those exact players playing something other than Van Halen.
Chuck, do you mean master volume like on a Mesa Rectifier or are you talking Marshall 2203 master volume?
They might be, John, but I will guarentee you it was loud as fuck in the room they were recorded. That's how you get that sound with a non-master volume amp: you turn it up, OR you attenuate it and run a boost up front to distort it at lower volumes.
In other words, you go full circle to where we were with amp designs in 1975.
Master volume amp designs are all beasically the same. You are asking about a difference in pre-amp gain.

+1
Those clips sound awesome on the Mojave site. However, if you aren't gigging at high volumes, you're getting about $500 worth of performance from those $2k+ amps.
Ohhh , that's what they're called...they don't get too much mention. Yes it was a pretty nice amp.
