    Re: Mojave amps

I still say I would give my left nut for that Peacemaker. If I only use it to play EVH tunes at ear bleeding volumes, it would be worth it.

That amp goes on the MUST HAVE list!

Sleep. The sound doesn't collapse to riffs of early eyes either.

They might be, John, but I will guarentee you it was loud as fuck in the room they were recorded. That's how you get that sound with a non-master volume amp: you turn it up, OR you attenuate it and run a boost up front to distort it at lower volumes.
In other words, you go full circle to where we were with amp designs in 1975.

Master volume amp designs are all beasically the same. You are asking about a difference in pre-amp gain.

Thats not entirely true though Chuck...one thing about these amps is the built in Power Dampening, wich does allow the tubes to run maxed, but will essentially drop the output to about 3 watts (at least on mine) - which is a far cry from the ear splitting volume capable (and admittedly unuseable). The power dampening is not a master volume at all, but will accomplish some of the same goals.

Also - it does seem that nearly everyone with a master volume amp (yourself included if I remember) is hitting the front end with some sort of pedal as well. There's too many variables to take into account basing an amps tones on clips alone, but if it aint doin it for you, it aint doin it for you. VH tones and tunes are about last on my list for the goals I shoot for when playing, and there's way more to these amps than VH.

FWIW - the playing on those clips doesn't really do much for me. If I get a chance to get near some recording gear I'll get some of the tones available from the Scorpion on tape so you can hear at least a different side of whats out there.

The EVH thing has been run into the ground...that is so only the tip of the iceberg with these amps.

Do yourself a favor and checkout these clips - pay attention to the Coyote clips (12 watts / 2xEL84's), and close attention to the very non-metal "Aint No Sunshine" done with the Peacemaker...

            Sigh....*takes deep breath*

I need to publicly state for the record that Chuckracer is right...while this is a large plate of humble crow pie to swallow, for the good of all mankind and the alignment of the stars, it must be acknowledged.
