  • Dual Rectifier Rackmount ?s

Amp is on the way, but these are my Three questions:

1.What are some good effect (basically chorus, reverb and delay) units to go with it?

    2.What do you prefer, EL34s or 6L6s?

3.I also bought a 1960B Marshall with vintage 30s to go with it. Is it a good combination?

I liked Groove tube Svet 6l6GC's in the one I had. The g major goes great with these.

      +1 I use a G-major with a Single rectifier and it's a great combination.

I have one. Rocktron Replifex sounds good in the loop. I'm using mine with the same cab.....crushes. I have 6L6's in mine. I've never tried EL34's in it.

            Re: Dual Rectifier Rackmount ?s

I have pretty much owned every dual rec out there, right now i have a rackmount and a roadking so i will give you my take on them

If you are buying a dual rec you are more then likley going for that crushing tone, so stick with the 6L6's, if you want to make it sound more like a marshall with less gain throw in some EL34's then. Now you will never get a dual to sound exactly like a marshall, but you can get close, but it just does not have the midrange that a marshall has.

The marshall 1960 cab should go fine, mesa cabs are also stocked with the vintage 30's and the rec's sound best with these because the vintage 30's have a good midrange, the rec's have a cut midrange so it evens it out.

I know mesa was getting hand picked v30's that sounded a bit darker then normal V30's, however i do not know if this is true with there newer cabs as mesa's might have started cutting corners and just used normal ones.

As to cab quality, the newer marshalls are not as built as well as the Mesa's, but the older marshall cabs are built solid.

Effects, i dont use much effects but yeah the gmajor is the way to go with a rec, actually i havent found many effects it does not like.

Is the Dual Recto rack version a special order item? I don't see them listen on Mesa's site. I see the pre but not the whole head in a rack config. How many spaces is it?

Anyone know if other manufacturers offer this? Bogner? Engl? I think I've seen a Soldano SLO in a rack version.

                    Missed the Mesa bus

I always let the good ones slip away. I was awaiting some additional advice from a friend when time ran out on a rack Mesa Dual Recto on eBay. Phooey!

I've heard more good things about this version. Is it really "better" than the current 3 channel models? What year(s) were they produced? If you set the 1st OD channel for med gain, if you back off the vol, does it clean up nicely? How may rack spaces is it? Anyone play the rack version w/a G-Major?

Soldano had a a Rackmount SLO-100 Dan Spitz used to have one. As far as other builders I don't think so.
